No gloves are legal. But I agree they will add unwanted mass and slow down nocking speed. Not all gloves are made alike though. Some have reinforced finger tips or are made from thicker hide. I prefer Damascus brand, as they are soft like driving gloves, but they don't protect as well as the thicker...

Some of the dimensions are as they are obviously because of the marshal gauge. Here's more pictures: An elongated ...

Mongol bows are almost identical to magyar bows (Which makes sense when you trace the history of the turks). If you look at Wikipedia and look up Mongol Bow, you can see a couple of illustrations of mongol bow cases.

I foresee a problem with most people being able to work uniform grooves in the handles of their rattan. I think it would be much less work and room for error to simply work the rattan down ovally just slightly bigger (1/16") then the crosshilt coat with a laquer (to seal the fibers together) an...

I just want to point out, before you go putting a whole ton of effort of following that instruction on making a hoplite shield out of plywood, that plywood shields don't tend to last all that long in SCA combat. I'll call the really ugly crosshilt and pommel combination: Klaus. Does that make you feel better?

Actually, I don't mind. I appreciate the input. But since these are each hand made though, I can pretty much make them any way people want (within reason). No need for them to be cookie cutter.

I think I'd rather weld it. Bending metal that thick is REALLY difficult to get a sharp bend. And grinding it out to make a bent piece look sharp would just make it weak at that joint.

Actually. Now that I think about it, it would just make the hole round if I spin the tangs 90 degrees and then weld them to the inside of the hole. It would be 1 1/8" diameter circle. Also, I could just open the hole up more to allot for the thickness of the tangs which would allow the crosshil...

Owyn: I can weld the tangs on 90 degrees to the way that I have. But my thought was that the grip being thinner flat-to-flat (of the blade) would have less tendancy to torque or spin to the fatter width of the grip that is edge-to-edge. It's really no harder or easier to do the other way 'round. Kla...
