I may not be going, but I can probably get a couple of guys to take you up on the challenge. I'll shoot an email out to a few of the Blackspear guys. Did you okay this with the autocrat and the MoL? Not trying to be a party pooper (I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem with it), but just make sure t...

What are the N, B, X, etc...prefixes for? What are the X areas? With respect, -Aaron Well, the lots on the east side of Pennsic that are grouped together tend to have a prefix of E. The ones on the West side have a prefix of W. The exteneded areas that htey added later to the north are N, and the o...

No gloves are legal. But I agree they will add unwanted mass and slow down nocking speed. Not all gloves are made alike though. Some have reinforced finger tips or are made from thicker hide. I prefer Damascus brand, as they are soft like driving gloves, but they don't protect as well as the thicker...

Absolutely can reverse the tangs, Sir Corby. I can even put tangs in both directions. Since these are not cast, but cut and welded steel stock, there is little that I can't fiddle with. Some of the dimensions are as they are obviously because of the marshal gauge. Here's more pictures: An elongated ...

I hate this company, but you can get an idea of the bow cases the Huns used.

I just want to point out, before you go putting a whole ton of effort of following that instruction on making a hoplite shield out of plywood, that plywood shields don't tend to last all that long in SCA combat. The only ones I've seen last more then a season or two are ones that were heavily reinfo...

Owyn: I can weld the tangs on 90 degrees to the way that I have. But my thought was that the grip being thinner flat-to-flat (of the blade) would have less tendancy to torque or spin to the fatter width of the grip that is edge-to-edge. It's really no harder or easier to do the other way 'round. Kla...

Polish winged Hussars are also a bit out of period, but less then 100 years. But I agree, it would be even cooler and closer in timeframe. Anything done well is usually given some appreciation in the SCA, (Just as people do Japanese, African and South American indians), so long as they are doing it ...

Are there any health concerns with eating from brass? (I seem to remember that copper really needs to be tinned). I have pewter stuff now, but it's not very durable. Does the bronze stuff tarnish pretty quickly? I had ironware as my first spoon and pricker and it was pretty gross. If it touched anyt...

First thing to do is check your local laws and covenances to make sure that shooting arrows is allowed in your area. In some locations (like where I live in the burbs of Washington DC), it's not technically illegal but you could be subject to local nuisance laws. Neighbors may be reticent to walk in...

I'm sorry for the time lapse, but Tuesday morning, the internet went down for me and the cable company just came out and fixed it.
