To no fault of Sir Raymond, the belt chape has the more coppery color of his hand cast bronze pieces, and the rest of the scabbard hardware is brass colored. I managed to screw-up peening. When you're working with somewhat thin leather, big chunky rivets (especially ones you've made yourself out of ...

I'm going to give a +1 to what Lord Brent has said. There are a lot of Heralds that know SCA rules of blazonry chapter and verse, but are not experts in every type of heraldry from every location spanning nearly 1000 years. I'm not saying that there aren't some extremely knowledgable heralds that wi...

Here's a little bit of medieval bling you can do for yourselves with a dremel tool and some rat tail files and an investment of about $20 in brass: I needed a belt chape for my sword belt, and wanted something I could incorporate my badge of triple scallops into. I found an affordable chape at Quiet...

The rearbrace is almost complete. I'm just waiting on a buckle to match the rest of the bronze buckles on my kit. Below is a view of the upper arm defense, elbow rondel and vambrace. The vam will eventually be a full cannon after I add a hinge to the other half (not shown). http://farm4.static.flick...

That belt looks like it's a simple cross-over and wrap that is stitched directly to the scabbard's leather exterior.
This will probably muddy the waters for you a bit, but I flexed some google fu and found this:

The only viking suspension I've seen was on a baldric.
If you're talking knotted sword hip belts, there is this thread:
http://forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/ ... sword+belt
That type is seen in the late 13th and deep into the 14th century, but I'm not sure how much further back it goes.

My first kit of armor was hardened leather that was spray painted white with a blue spray fade on the edges. I would show you a photo, but the last person to view them, had his face melt just like the nazi's at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. The greaves are the last piece of that original kit a...

If you're looking to give tribute, then just ask your monarchs. They tend to want items that they can turn into largess. I've made leather badges to give to other kingdoms, and stuff to the barony to give as tribute to other baronies. I've made playing cards (with kingdom motifs instead of the norma...

I don't know if we know definitively when helm liners actually started to be used in helms. But most helms prior to the 1400's seem to be worn over a mail or padded camail, and a padded coif with padded roll or a pillow set into the helmet seems to be the period practice. I've done a sew in liner (o...

So I'm working on my new arm protection and figured I'd give some updated photos of what I'm working on. You may remember the velvet covered vambrace on the first page that is inconspicuously hiding with the picture of the unfinished greaves. Well. That's finished. The edging stitched on, splints ad...

Illuminations are nice, but here is a helmet from a little later then the period the originator was looking for that is painted (the cross is not brasswork, it's painted on). Now the question remains, is it the original paint job or something done later to make it look spiffy on someone's mantle? I'...

I've got one from WMA, that I think I paid over $400 for, but I love it dearly and wouldn't think of letting it go for probably half again as much as that. I don't even use it now. The factory label is still on the black fabric and it says 100% cotton. I pulled out a big wad of the stuff from my navy blue version of the same stuff (I had bought like 4 yards of every color originally). And set that wad of batting on fire with a stick match and it went up like a piece of flash p...

Wearing them on asphalt will scuff them up, and you'll get some traction. But will still be horrible for ice, but then any shoe is pretty useless unless you've got golf spikes on the bottom. If you plan on wearing them on slick surfaces, waxed floors and such, then you can get something called Shoe ...

Yes. All 550 + spares (There should be 5 spares per pack, so it's actually 605 rings you get), for $22+ shipping.
To ship them from my zip (20705) to yours (97301), Baron Alail is:
$4.55 (parcel 7 day)
$4.95 (priority 2 day)
