Different kingdoms have different rules for youth combat. They may be able to fight with rattan in the west, but here in Atlantia, for example youth are limited to fighting with foam wrapped PVC until they are minimally 16 (and additional requirements must be met because they are not 18). I'm sure i...

I *REALLY* want to see what $1800 gauntlets look like. Ice used to have some $900 gaunts on his site. Most gauntlets are just mass produced to fit a hypthetical sized hand. Only a few armorers actually offer gauntlets in grouped sizes of S, M, L, much less ones that offer custom gauntlets to fit the...

The SCA rules say you have to wear an enclosed shoe, so no sandals (I know it seems like a silly regulation, but even a slipper will prevent minor abbrasions and grass cuts). A solidly built modern walking shoe offers little protection for someone's poleyn from crushing your toe when they drop to th...

I cut-out my personal badge in brass and added it to my besegues. (Just something to think about if you have a charge from your arms that would work well, or your knight's.) http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3292/2315276349_e9134e00f0_m.jpg I did in an homage to Hugh Hastings effigy (c1347) that has a ...

Thanks, Ice. It seems like you have a monopoly on the loose, stainless, flat-ring, round-riveted, 9mm links. If I were employed I'd just buy the bag outright and use them up as needed. I'm not looking to spend more then $50. Is anyone else interested in splitting an order of stainless steel links? I...

WTB: loose 9mm SS flat riveted chain rings
I need to replace a few broken rings as well as do some in-fill on my helm's aventail. I need about 100 rings and rivets. Stainless, flat 9mm ring, domed rivets.
I don't want to purchase 5 lbs. of rings wen I need so few. Does anyone have spares to sell/trade?

I have one of these 12x20' (240 sq ft) double bell wedge tents from panther. The canvas weighs about 60 lbs. without the fly, the poles or the ground pegs. Add another 20 lbs. for tent pegs, and another 20 for the poles (including fly poles). The ridge pole and uprights are all under 9' in length. T...

I second Gladius the Alchemist at Alchem Inc. Gladius sells steel prods, which weigh more, but will not suffer from fatigue as quickly as aluminum prods. Gladius tends to have the 60-75# prods in stock. As well as delrin material to make roller nuts, and trigger lever blanks if you want to make a pr...

12 ga bowl (top) and 14 ga skirt is what I would suggest minimally if it's mild cold or hot rolled sheet. Stainless, you might be able to get by with 14 ga bowl if you dodge head shots real well. I have a friend with a 12 ga spangen (you'd think the spangen straps would make it a bit stronger) that ...

I've done a few rosaries to go with different outfits. Paternosters were one of the few things that were exempt from sumptuary laws, and so some of the merchant class (non-noble, gentry) really used them to show off their wealth. These both have natural corals (the one on the left has 14mm natural b...

FS: Kong Mace head -SOLD
This is an Extra-large kong 'stuf-a-ball' mace head that I've cut out the top and bottom on to fit on some rattan. It's too heavy for my wimpy forearms, so I'm going to a smaller; medium or large size mace head. This one looks more proper for a serious mace head at 4" diameter and 4" heigh...

What type of station would be appropriate to wear a chain of estate? If you refer to Karen's web site you can see the groupings of collars (chains). Most often they are indicative of orders of chivalry (order of the garter, order of the golden fleece, etc). In England, you could be a knight (a memb...

Livery collars/chains of estate don't seem to be common until the 15th century. Livery chains do appear in the 14th century, but there's not a lot of references to them. Men wearing collars (chains) didn't appear to be fashionable until the 4th quarter of the 14th century. The earliest livery collar...
