Re: Some dagger/knife scabbards from the weekend

I can do a scabbard commission if you send me the dagger. A plain leather scabbard with a pig-skin lining would be $20. I can do either a raised seam or a butted seam. A plain leather scabbard with pig-skin in a cup style $30 ($10 aggrivation fee). See pic of a cup style scabbard below. A wood core ...

Re: Some dagger/knife scabbards from the weekend

The peening is a great idea. I'd have to shorten the blade to not lose any grip length. I think we both chose nearly identical shaped grips for these. I wouldn't want to cover up a walnut grip. And I toyed with making this a bare wood grip, but all of my other daggers have wooden or bare metal grips...

Re: Windlass Falchion for sale w/modified hilt and scabbard

I went with the zig-zag pattern common to scabbards in the Maciejowski bible. It's also the style on the scabbard of King Sancho IV of Castile. Though falchions were seen in images from the 13th to 15th cen., I felt this particular style was most common to the late 13th, early 14th. And since the me...

and another dagger scabbard. The wood core is 1/8" thick basswood. It's already been sanded and shelac'd in this photo. The dagger is an MRL sword hilt dagger which needs modifying. The pommels on these is huge for a dagger. So far I've removed 1/8" diameter and slightly dished the center of each si...

Halvgrimmr, Thinning the leather where you want it to stretch or shrink will also help with forming it. My guess (and this is only a guess), would be to wet the leather significantly (some suggest soaking it for upwards of 30 mins) and work the knuckle shape into the center or keel of the leather us...

Re: Combat archery - crossbow quiver

I had tried slots a long time ago and found that my arrows still kept getting hung up on each other. I think for bolts slots should be great. I gravitated to having each arrow in it's own tube. I couldn't carry as many but they never got tangled, and you could run as fast as you're able and they wou...

I love the look of 6mm maille and the correctly constructed sleeves would be a Godsend, but doing middle of the 14th, I can't see a reason I would need voiders. I'm waiting until someone posts something about 6mm, stainless, riveted, correctly constructed sleeved hauberk. (I had a mild steel one bef...

$300 for a tooled leather coronet box. Any commissions ? ;) Um...Actually, I might commission one for that price. Show me that it is a close copy of an extant piece from 1300-1400 and I'd probably add $200+ to that price. Let's talk in December if you're serious. Start looking for extant inspiratio...

I guess I may have overstated it. The cuff detail was discussed and Anton offered to d...

Hammer Breaker Review : Breaking the Frieman scale

I recently commissioned HammerBreaker armoury to help me with a few pieces for my upgraded 14th century kit. Specifically I felt some gauntlets he had worked on in the past would be nearly perfect for my concept of replicating the Sir Miles Stapleton armor (which is my current project). I contacted ...

14th century Plaque belts. Good quality turnshoes. I have a couple of cast plaque belts (One is from Isabella E), but short of finding someone that will take the commission, they're like hen's teeth. A couple of places actually make something that can be called a turnshoe, but they pale to ones I pu...

Some dagger/knife scabbards from the weekend

My girlfriend gave me the weekend off to do what I wanted (instead of sitting around outlet malls or watching her do laundry). And so this is what I did. I didn't make the knives (I modified a couple in profile or finish) just the scabbards. No more ripping holes in my pockets! Scabbard for A&A Aunl...

You'd lose 1 3/8" of the point. I'm attaching a photo. It has flex. I can bridge it across my knee and flex it about 8 or 9" in either direction and it springs right back to straight. But I'm very leary of bending metal (especially a Windlass) repeatedly. But I'm giving Brother Logan first right of ...

I can hold on to it for a few weeks. Just let me know if you change your mind between now and then. I'll hold off on putting it up on MyArmoury.
Maybe I'll make a suspension belt for it this weekend to sweeten the deal.

I don't think the bycocket (hat) is just hunting. Though it does seem to be favored in those illustrations. If you look on Karen Larsdatter's pages, There are images from the 14th century of men and possibly a few women wearing Chapeau a beck (bycocket/aka robin hood hats) while hunting, falconing, ...

I think Talbot's pattern is different, unless he made a kit helm that is diffferent from his von Prankh helm.

I have some questions about finishing this piece, and I could use the maker's advice.

Great helm Helmet identification of maker

I purchased this on the archive several months ago (maybe as much as a year ago). I'm trying to find out the maker of the kit. I saw one on the archive for sale very recently almost identical but without rivet holes, it too had no top. But that person didn't know the maker either.

I should also mention that I satined the finish on the crosshilt and pommel as the lacquered finish it came with looked too "factory". The laquer has also been removed from the blade, but as you can see I didn't satin the blade. If you want, I can polish them up to near mirror again. I will not reap...

Moderately customized Windlass Steel crafts Medieval Falchion for sale. This would be a great sword for use in court as a side-weapon or pulling guard duty at Pennsic. Especially if your group has red as a livery color. Very snazzy as Windlass does not make scabbards for any of their medieval swords...

That sword I think was blocky/squarish in profile along its length. But a round sword would fit in that scabbard as well. For different periods, you would use different suspensions. But I think making a heavy leather tube would hold true for any scabbard. Heavy leather will deal with the abuse of re...
