Seems like you did the right thing. Reading that thread, I think the 1/16" per edge is the extra width so you can glue the slats to gether to join the edges. I think 1/16" thick (veneer thickness) wood is a bit thin for a scabbard. Even looking at the Ye Old Gaffer site, the scabbard being made for the Anglo Saxon Armor Class sword is...

Re: WTB Turnshoes 15th century

Be aware that some of those shoe sellers aren't selling "turnshoe" manufactured shoes. Many will pass the 20' rule quite well though, without sacrificing much comfort from an applied sole. And for 15th century you might want to look at poulains. I'm not sure when they came into use or fell out, but ...

If I didn't just order a set very similar to this (and already have 2 other pairs of finger gauntlets) I would totally jump on it. Most excellent!

Re: Dirt mound for an archery target?

My guess is that the Lutrell is showing packed earth butts (possibly clay). The holes are drawn as rondels, probably to illustrate penetrating holes. If it was turfed, I think they'd be green and the holes would be invisible through the grass. I've never had an arrow break that hit turfed ground. Mo...

For that, I would also suggest Ice Falcon. If you had asked for different specs, there are other places that do welded. But for riveted, I would stick with Ice. You might even find it somewhere else for a bit cheaper, but any issues you have (shedding rings, you ask for the wrong size, or they accid...

Re: Woods for pole weapons? (Not SCA)

I can get 2x2 dimensional (1.75") in ash, hickory and cherry for about $20 for a 6' length. And knock off a bit at the corners for an octogon shape, alternating small and wide sides, unlike the prefabbed octogonal ash shafts which are same-sided octogons). This is for a 6' pole so, I'm thinking I wi...

Any suggestions for alternative woods for pole weapons besides ash or elm? I did mine by fitting and re-fitting it to the helm after adding a few rows of links. Taking it off and adding more. Repeat as necessary. I made the liner after altering the camail and adding the face triangles. The liner is shaped wrong, and probably a bit too much padded, which is why it sits spla...
