Re: The Dogsoldier Codex: A Guide to Armored Combat for Figh
Standard issue in House Blackspear. Still have my copy, but destroyed the cover getting it wet. Very clever annecdotes. More entertaining if you've met any of the people mentioned in the book, and if you mention the certain passages to people mentioned in the book around a campfire (when lubricated ...

For several years I've been very appreciative of FedEx Ground/Home delivery. I'm surprised a lot of people still don't know of the service. But it tends to be slightly cheaper than United Parcel Service ground, and has a standard $100 insurance value for no additional charge. For more expensive pack...

Re: Signet Ring for a Barony
If it's for multiple people to use (or to be passed on), you probably don't want a ring, as it would need resizing regularly or be unwearable. You can do a seal stamp (wood or ornate handle) that would be universal for everyone to use.

Re: who sells a "real" sword
If it's something for lopping tree limbs, and decapitating pig carcases, I'd get a cold steel sword, or something from Baltimore Knife and Sword. Only because I would never treat a $1k Albion that way. Albions and Arms&Armor are functional pieces of artwork and are the closest thing to something Mr....

Re: 14th C. hose & coat (New thread from 14th C. socks)
The hem at the top of the hose looks too neat to be hand-done. It looks like it was done by machine. I love the blanket stitch on the edge of the hooded mantle, and the weave of fabric. The hand-stitching at the collar of the cote, the button holes, and along the cuffs is like steamy hot erotic sex....

I'll give you this one with a scabbard I made for $55 U.S. plus shipping (~$6 tops). I modified the wood handle so it was less "rough" where the base of the blade meets and made the ballocks more rounded (they were a tad squarish when I got it). I'm not really happy with the scabbard. The fit is exc...

Re: 15th Century Jack Chains w/ simple elbow
I wore jack chains for a season with low profile elbows beneath and never had an issue. In SCA fighting I dont think you get hit in the arms all that much (people would tend to go for my head or leg). I suppose it depends on if you tend to go up against arm hunters. But with a padded gambeson and ch...

Re: WTB period (14th Century) camp stuff, chair, feast gear,
I'd spent the past few days mulling over the pieces and what I would take for the set. I haven't figured the shipping weight yet, but I've decided that I'm willing to let both the feastwear (17 pc. set) and the pitcher (1 pc.) with the coffers go for $200 + shipping. To buy the pitcher will cost you...

I did place the pitcher in the storage trunk (Empty execept for that one coffer in fact). My memory is failing me though. The large hollow ware coffer (plates, bowls, tumblers) was glued and nailed with some doweling. These are all STEDE (The image of a cast horses head with the word STEDE beneath i...

I remembered where I stashed the coffer with the holloware. But the pitcher is eluding me. I think it's inside of another wooden chest in storage under about 200 lbs. of archery equipment. I'll hopefully have new pics up this evening and let you know about price and shipping.

Re: Is there any issues with this?
I wonder if anybody ever thought of possibly retiring 'registered' heraldry, at the death of the bearer. Since heraldry in the SCA is not heritable, there should be little issue, as it is I think the system seems to encourage bad, overly complex heraldry. That would make too much sense ^. It's also...

I'll take more recent pics, hopefully less fuzzy ones too. I may have a couple of extra pewter pieces as well to throw in. Also: I might be willing to sell this along with it if you're interested. Re: WTB period (14th Century) camp stuff, chair, feast gear,
I'm thinking of letting go of my pewterware. I'd have to think about what I'm looking to get for it. I built a coffer for it all, and it has more pieces since the photos were taken. It also has a iron hasp, iron carrying handle and decorative spring lock that were added after the photos. I never go ...

They would do a good job of killing enemy marines (assuming they were used to any extent at the time). Bodkins would give bette...

As someone that uses an arrow bag, I think the spacer in middle makes sense. The arrows with piles can be drawn from either direction. Loosen the top or bottom of the bag and the arrow can be withdrawn or pulled through. In precipatory weather, the fletches will stay dry so long as you keep the top ...

I'd be interested in some spring stainless enclosed vambraces and rebraces for my mid 14th century kit. I'm getting rid of the splinted armor. Not for BoN. Just for SCA. I already have spring stainless spaulders and elbows.

I did a few based on the drawings of an antequarian of the Bodlein library, dated to 1777. http://cianofstorvik.100webspace.net/arrows/arrows.htm I don't have the book here, but I'm pretty sure there is an Osprey book (English Longbowman) that shows a pair of disks. I don't know of any French. I also don't know of any German. I tend to keep my browsing to English sources. But I would suggest that they restrict their search to German and French (as northern/eastern French styles seemed to follow more HRE than English). My point was that any search through Englis...

Re: Anyone have a Longbow they want to trade for armor?
It depends on how period appropriate you want the bow to be. Medieval style is not very specific as the Norse had flat bows, stickbows and longbows. There are also modern bows called "longbows" which are more of an american style with flattened limbs, sometimes with a recurved shape, and with a near...

Re: cervellier with klapvisor?
If you want klappvisor mountings, you'll probably have to restrict your search to German and some French effigies. The earlier bascinets are thought to be shorter (at or just below ear level) around the middle of the 14th century, this is about the time of the globose type faceplates that seemed to ...

The Holy Lance in Rome looks more like a Roman pilum, but going strictly by drawings still seems suspect. It is entomed in a column, I believe, impossible to inspect. The armenian sigillum, also described as the lance that pierced Jesus, is also more antique than the Hapsburg piece. Though neither s...

I would suggest you either suggest a price you would like or a price to start bidding at, and announce that is the way you would like it sold (one way or the other), unless you want a "make me an offer" type thing, which rarely works out well. I would also be specific as to 1) where you're...
