Re: The White Belt
I don't think anyone knows waht all of the "knightly" belts represented are in images, brasses and effigies. We make suppositions that the ornate belts are either tooled leather, or cast/repousse' plaques riveted to the belts, but lack of evidence isn't much evidence. We do know that some ...

Re: Hiding a gas lantern... How do you?
You might want more light than that. Those only produce about 273 lumens. The Mary Rose lanterns I made (and sold) were 7 watt fluorescents (450 lumens), and though I got complaints at Pennsic 39 about how bright they were, I wouldn't try to do any delicate work with them. I did a little reading by ...

Oddly enough I wear a bascinet. I'm stealing someone else's idea from about 500 years ago. Let me prefeace this by saying there are LOTS of homeless on the streets in D.C. and its suburbs. So I invest in some helmets, crossbows and ammo....and some ham sandwiches. Lure the homeless onto the archery ...

I'm sort of collecting kettle helms, and that price is too good to pass up. PM'd. If I get this one, I'm up to 6! 194 more and we march on....(where's their sovereigns' seats? North Carolina? Seems like it moves location every 6 months)....! We shall rally to the cries of; Cuan d'etat! Cuan d'etat!....

My personal preference is welded crown with a ridged seam, as I feel it's a later style. (Like most of the White Mountain chapel de fers). I have 4 kettles and they are all welded 2 piece.

Great tip on the cutting. The big problem is that my crappy 10" table saw wobbles as it cuts (it want's to follow the path of softest wood). So even though I run the wood through the saw, the width varies by as much as .15" along the length of the cut. It's pretty freeaking annoying. I got...

The standard one sells for around $800 with shipping. With the custom bronze hardware, this has to be pushing a $300 discount. Like I say, if I didn't already have a BP, it would be mine.

I like the bronze hardware and the octogonal pommel (I noticed a couple of UK brasses and effigies have similar shaped pommels from about 1365+; See reginald de cobham). I already have the standard BP, otherwise I'd snatch that up. The BP is my favorite sword. I love the Albions, but the A&A BP ...

And it's kind of ironic that Atlantia is a bit serious about appearance rules, and at the same time there is a derth of sumptuary laws. But it seems to be a good fit. 14th century English under Edward III had knights fighting from foot iirc. Not all the time, but I believe it was used in some static formations. Perhaps more importantly, the French took to the practice in several large engagements of ALSO dismounting to engage the defensive English so that the ho...

The most authentic heads I've seen come from Hector Cole in the UK. I've never handled his broadheads though. I want to clarify the MD regulation is 7/8" minimum width if DEER OR BEAR hunting. There is no head shape/type/size requirement for birds or ground crawlers. There used to be some moder...

Leather will be durable, but hot. Vinyl will be worse. I know what you mean about the smell. I believe the brigandines that are extant had layers. Sometimes, the external layer was velvet or silk. Evidence exists of velvet being used on sword grips and brigandines into the 15th. The finds at wisby; ...

Yes, I had forgotten about them!... I was just busting your balls. The only reason I remembered them is I had just been staring intently at a few of those brasses a few days earlier. Almost is right if you're ignoring the second quarter of the 14th century effigial evidence. Roger Grey that someone has depicted them wearing fantasy a...

They were probably meant to be worn over something. As Gavin suggests, it would help if we could see them over top of whatever you're planning to wear them with (or on the bare arm if that is the plan), from several angles. They could probably be salvaged if you have the right tools (could be as lit...

I don't think I would nickel chrome a helm. Even though it's one of the better bonding plate types, it still would not fair well with the flexing it does in being hit. For a dress piece, it would hold up well and look shiner than silver. So mantle piece, I guess you could. If so I'd suggest Qual Kom...

I've got a piece of 14 ga a bit larger than that (12 x 4?) that you could have for free (you pay for shipping).
It's a bit rusty and .03" thinner than what you're asking for though.

Doesn't the saddle soap prevent the dyes from taking? I've used saddle soap as a cleaner to treated/chrome tanned leathers. But it always seemed like it would be counter productive on vegetable tanned that I had yet to dye.
