Oh, yeah, missed a point on Caid: For the first round draw, chivalry line up on one side and unbelts on the other, and the unbelts each challenge a member of the chivalry. Since the unbelts usually outnumber the chivalry, a few are selected by the Crown to cross over to the chivalry side to even it ...

Caid runs double-elim, but we don't use a tree; the draw is random each round, so any fight may be 2 winners, 2 losers, or 1 of each. Generally, the final is fought 2 out of 3 regardless of whether either or both combatants had a loss earlier. Our most recent Crown was a little different, because th...

Once upon a time there was a squire. When he was young, he had been active in the life of arms and showed some promise, but after a while, due in part to some real things but mostly his own character flaws, had become disillusioned and wandered away. The squire spent much of his life thinking he wou...

That helmet almost looks like a "simplified" zischagge, which would put you at the 1600 end of the SCA period.

even cheaper, go to a thrift store find a 100% wool blanket. Cost of dry cleaning is usually about $2.50 to 5.00 now you can also use it to sleep under... makes your kit a bit lighter. If you can find wool blanket that is what I would start with. And don't dry clean it. Stick it in the washer. Felt...

Looks much better than most SCA folks' first kits.

I do think you'll want more protection for your thighs than just the crash-pads, at least to start out. Thighs probably take the most abuse of any body part in learning SCA fighting.

Having reread the posts about 'brain damage' several times, it appears that the doctor was comparing brain damage to lung damage as far as repair/healing goes, NOT that he was saying she had any. Correct. He was saying if they didn't intervene to get her oxygen saturation up, then there could be br...

They [poofy pants] seem a bit overdone in the SCA ,and often done badly True. Unfortunately, for those of us who need to hide our leg armour, the options are limited. Personally, I make my pants somewhat less poofy (although I'll prolly end up buying some of Adric's very poofy ones) and wear a long...

That is Duke Ivan the Illustrated. The arm harness is not correct for the rest of the kit, but won't really raise any eyebrows in the SCA. The helmet is based on an archaeological find, so it's good, and all the other protective gear is hidden. The tall boots and long/wide white belt are SCAisms, bu...

Might that not cause issues? Did it cause issues if Duke William fitzJohn crossed paths with serjeant William fitzJohn in period? The bigger problem I see in the SCA is the nonsensical way we use titles; in period there wouldn't have been a "Duke William fitzJohn," there would only have b...
