Re: Origins of Chinese Martial Schools

There are tons of modern(and semi modern) Chinese fictions written about people with fantastic martial prowess in existence.... I understand that this is equivilant to elves and dwarves and wizards of western mythology... However, myths are usually based on something right? Having been the guy toss...

For SCA use I'd stay away from the GDFB bucklers. Not that there's any problem with them quality-wise, but the way the grips are mounted leaves too much hand exposed to pass an SCA marshal's inspection.

2 of the final 3, and 3 of the final 5, were Calafians, so I'd say y'alls' stable had a good showing

Yeah, the way Caid shuffles the cards every round can make our lists a little confusing. The most common way to deal with the 3-person at the end situation is to give one person a bye to the final and have the other two fight a semi-final, but in this case all 3 had already fought eachother earlier ...

The RH patterns are more carefully researched and historically accurate; the PP patterns are more "costume" based, but very good for what they are IMHO. You might also look at Fleur de Lyse.

Just arrived in Caid, so I dunno about down here yet. Not many, compared to most kingdoms. Pretty much, if there's a 3-day weekend, there's a camping event. Almost all other events are day events. Even Coronation and Queen's Champion, which are always on a Saturday and Sunday, respectively, are rar...

This is one of those inter-Kingdom things. Having played around with some Ansteorran notables with bastage swords, I can tell you Ansteorra interprets the rules about grasping, trapping, and grappling more leniently than most other Kingdoms. Shoulder-checking is pretty much the norm in bastard swor...

Having no experience with it myself, I've often wondered if the single-hand/double-bit reining, used by many polo players and the spiffy Horse Guards at Westminster Palace, would work well for mounted combat.

Speaking as an almost pure SCA fighter with limited exposure to WMA, I'm inclined to agree with the esteemed Mr. Tobler: it's not that wraps don't work, but that once one is in wrapping range one is also in shield-smashing and grappling range, both of which might well be much more effective techniqu...

It's really simple. All of us occasionally have a shot go wild, but if you make a habit of hitting people in the jimmy on purpose, it will get around. If you're the kind of person who likes having the people you play with all think you're a dickwad, then rock on, it's a legal target.
