Also, how much protection does it offer? Can I legitimately go with just kidney protection? I don't get hit in the body *much*, but it does happen (more with 2 swords). I wear 2 layers of fabric and a kidney belt under mild steel, 9mm, wedge-riveted mail. It is not uncommon to have some nice mail-p...

IceFalcon lists his 5.3mm stainless hauberks at around 10lbs... The links look really small... is this a bad photo, or accurate? I don't want it to look like jewelry... m That looks like "butcher" mail to me. IMHO, because the rings are so small and the wire so fine, it doesn't "read...

Caid is pretty close to an all S/S all the time kingdom. THL Mikhail of the Kuma is pretty good with a polearm (finalled in Crown once, final 4 yesterday). Sir Attila, who is in Calontir (IIRC) now but grew up here also doesn't suck. Duke Edric is pretty awesome with sword & madu (not my favorit...

You know, yesterday at Caid Crown, after I was out and watching the later rounds, I had much the same thought. Right behind me was a guy I'm quite sure I have never seen in armour trying to "explain" the action to his girlfriend...it was all I could do not to turn around and smack him.

New Stick

It is 21:40, and I just finished wrapping a new sword for Crown tomorrow. I am really itching to go whack the pell with it, but I have a don't piss off the neighbors policy of no pell after 21:30. Oh well, guess I'll just have to bust its cherry upside someone's head in the morning...

Apparently I am failing to express myself clearly. My last post had nothing to do with documentation per se . I will try one more time. Mostly just history. For quite a long time, armored combat was the only game in the SCA. Then, along came the fencers, and a lot of us (myself included) viewed them sort of like you'd view people wanting to kick around a soccer ball in the middle of your football game. It turned out we were wrong, a...
