I've lucked out and managed to avoid any meaningful physical consequences. Maybe it's because I use such perfect body mechanics, but more likely because I'm lazy and just don't fight as much or as hard as y'all guys that wreck yerselves The biggest issue for me is the social cost of being dedicated ...

HRM Sven here in Caid is one of the most consistently underrated fighters, and I'm not just saying that because my knight is his girlfriend. There have been tourney seasons when he won 50% of all the tourneys in Caid, and finalled in most of the ones he didn't win. He did have a bad case of "br...

I generally seek out people who range from better than I to a lot better than I. I'll fight the other squires if there aren't enough knights to go around, but I really want the dukes. I'll start by fighting to win, same as if I met them in a tourney. Most of them will hold back a bit for the first f...

I've had an event rolling around in my head based on the same concept, but with a competitive element added. Run it like a pas d'armes with the chivalry as the tenans and unbelts as venans, with the chivalry awarding prizes to the unbelts who most impress them, including an overall winner voted on b...

Re: Center slit tunic question

Is it period? Not sure whether you're asking if adding gores is period (almost certainly yes), or the center-slit itself. Split-skirt garments in early sources appear to have only been worn when actually riding; most "courtly" garments do not appear to have been split in the 11C and most ...

It's kingdom by kingdom, not in the SCA rules.

Here in Caid, it's III(B)(18 ).

It is one thing for a proven fighter, like Sir Vitus, to retire from the lists and dedicate himself to training others, but for those of us who have yet to show our worthiness, fighting has no meaning without placing ourselves in the crucible of competition. Otherwise it's just "tae bo" wi...

You need to make a couple choices: 1) Are you aiming for a good looking, reasonably historically accurate kit, or are you OK with "generic SCA" to start with. 2) If you want to do a more accurate kit, what time period & area? 3) Do you want to do as much of the work yourself as possibl...

I would recommend starting with basic plywood. The reason is they're not too expensive so you can try out a few different sixes/shapes/strapping/weight and find what you like before you invest in a good one.
