I have been in situations where I was dead and unable to fall. Not fun. I did not continuously yell "I'M DEAD AND I CAN'T FALL DOWN!!!," but simply yelled good and lowered my sword and shield. The third time I was hit, a spearman yelled "I Killed YOU! Fall Down!" I answered &quo...

When did the screwed boards get knocked loose? Day, battle, location, best as you can remember. They really came apart when we were moving the walls friday afternoon into their new positions for saturday's battles. We banged 'em back together as best we could, but they came loose again during the t...

Congratulations!

It was good to meet you in R/L; I'm sorry we didn't get a chance to cross swords.

I still think we should have taken out those fairies when we had the chance, now they'll probably breed and spread out of control like damn gophers.

The biggest problem was they started to come apart under stress and we got boards with screws sticking out waving around just above face level during fighting. Also, they were a bitch to move. The falling apart could be solved with longer screws, but this would make the moving even worse, since havi...

On the sad, a poor gentle died of a heart attack on Friday. This is the 2nd or 3rd time I have heard of someone dying at an SCA related activity from a heart attack. Keep those tickers healthy. Any idea of who this was???I have ALOT of friends down there this week.. He was a new guy, this was his f...

I actually like plain ole double-elim. When I'm out I have a choice of spending the rest of the day on the pick-up field or disarming and spending it on the sidelines flirting with the wives and girlfriends of the better fighters On the other hand, I also really like the way they ran most of the jud...

The SCA is a volunteer organization and, as with most other volunteer organizations I have experienced, about 10-20% of the people do 90% of the work. If you're not interested in being one of that 10-20%, that's fine, but you then have no right to complain (or, more to the point, to have your compla...

BY FAR the most common injuries are to knees and ankles, caused by people in not to great condition, and often pretty fat (I am speaking of myself here), running like bats out of hell over rough ground. If we fought on nicely groomed fields and trined like athletes it'd be different. Alcohol related...

Standard US residential service is 120/240V 1phase 3wire. What this means is that a 2-wire circuit (1 hot & 1 neutral) is a 120V circuit, and a 3-wire circuit (2 hots & 1 neutral) is 240V. Your house probably has few, if any, 240V circuits (AC compressor, swimming pool pump, and electric clo...

Sir Robear is epileptic, hence the no hits to the head ruling from his doctor. He called that helmet his "birdcage" and yes, as Sir Gaston noted, he did eventually replace it with a fairly nice great bascinet.

Depends on how sick you are. A little sniffle, no problem; but if you've got a real cold or flu going, fighting WILL make it worse. If you'd just sat around looking pretty at that event, you might have been over the cold in time not to miss all the other stuff you missed.

I wear linen tunics under riveted mail, which is not exactly known for its gentleness to fabrics, and have no complaints.

The sword pommel was accidentally left in for over 24 hours, and is pretty heavily pitted, which you can't really see in the picture.

To me, it's a huge gulf between aggression and anger. There are 2 specific areas of the brain that control different types of aggression.
