Re: Tortoises
Duke Ivan the Illustrated was a pretty good but not great unbelted fighter after several years of fighting, then in one season he was given the AoA-level fighting award one morning and won the tourney that day, was in the final 4 of the next Crown, was knighted the morning of the next Queen's Champi...

Not correct. She is not a fighter and not authorized.
In that case, they have her mis-categorized here.

Yes our town is *period* though only for indigenous personas and a few wandering spaniards...(NONE OF WHICH WORE KILTS OR CARRIED KATANAS!) Maybe not kilts and katanas, but undoubtedly some Spaniards were initiated into the deepest mysteries of Pueblo shamanism and returned to Europe with mystical ...

There have been a few more Princesses in their own right (not sure exact number) since the 2 Gavin mentioned; 2 women that I know of have been to Crown finals and a handful to the final 4.

There is also circumstantial evidence, but no direct evidence, to suggest Basque fishermen were likely landing on the northern coasts. Specifically, they were known to have super secret cod grounds, and they came back with the fish already salted and dried, which requires landing somewhere.

Re: Shield size
I'm more concerned with how a person uses a shield than the size. Some guys with bigger shields use them artfully, others just hide behind them. If you're hiding behind your shield, you belong in a shield wall, not on a tourney field. If you have a shield larger than I would personally use but you a...

I'm gonna say Spanish (the proto-morion) right around 1500 (the rest of the rig), possibly with a brigandine or (more likely IMHO) a coat over the breastplate.

Irish in North America before Spanish
A long overlooked report made to the King of Spain in 1521 provides an eyewitness account of an Irish province on the coast of South Carolina...The inhabitants of Duhare were described as being Europeans, who seemed to possess few metal tools. They had red to brown hair, tan skin and gray eyes. The...

The black foam from Windrose is better than smurf blubber, and it's actually 1/2", which is hat & miss with the blue crap.

There are some very good fighters in the Principality of Cynagua. Duke Havoc and Count Gemini come immediately to mind; Gemini and Sir Mari also run, AFAIK, the only "dojo-style" SCA fighitng training facility.
