How much does the aventail effect the movement of your head? I assume that this would differ depending on the length and material of the aventail? My other concern with the aventail would be the upkeep of the chainmail. Back in the bad old days of butted mail, aventails were a beotch because butted...

Look at Duke Hauoc's helmet and some of the "St. Justina" and "Italo-Norman" variations over at Windrose. Next time I have money burning a hole in my pocket, I'm thinking sometning like this one. (Edited to add: Looks like Errant Knight and Lufu had the same thought while I was s...

Depends on the armour worn. If you're wearing a kidney belt and shirt (SCA minimum), then a good shot to the ribs or shoulders will definitely hurt and probably leave a nice technicolor welt, but shouldn't actually break anything most of the time. If, on the other hand, you're wearing very much of a...

Yea, I see those on Ebay too. They don't count. Anyone can print one of those. I assumed the intent was to mean a real, official piece of paper with a 3rd party authentication and a pile of receipts back to when it came out of the armoury. Just doesn't happen. Well, almost never. Wade Yep. That is ...

I would guess fighting to the death (like striking someone in the face with a sharp weapon while they are on the ground) would be against the rules. Yes, but sometimes shit happens. In the SCA it is against the rules to hit someone on the ground, but sometimes the adrenaline gets going. Same thing ...

As a bit of "creative anachronism" to make a not-so-accurate but legal helmet, adding a documentable faceplate to a documentable hat, even though we know they didn't really go together, seems at least as reasonable as much of what we come up with in the SCA.
