Actually AG, gas here is $1.40 a gallon - I was figuring on what it might be in September. Image

Besides, never hurts to stash too much money in the fuel allotment when planning a trip.

Let's see... From here to Clay's castle - 957 miles each way. Roughly 14 miles to the gallon (my truck) 69 gallons. Figure $1.85/gal (just to be safe) = 127.65 each way. Now, 957 miles = about 21 hours (depending on how much I speed http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/biggrin.gif ) each direction. So -...

PoD, that is true, unless you're dealing with Silver, Gold, or Platnum. Those are weighed in Troy ounces, to which there are 12 ounces to a pound rather than the normal 16.

Well, German silver is another name for Nickel silver, which I have on hand here in 5/16" 16ga. Currently I'm finishing up a bronze coif (5/16" 16ga) with full mantle. I'll probably sell it, too.

Expensive. Silver is about 10 bucks an ounce in wire form. Figure a coif at 3 pounds (absolute guess...), 12 oz to a pound, so 36 ounces x $10 = $360, just for materials. Then add in labor.

Actually, the colored rings are Neon Magenta and Neon Blue, both 24 gauge, twisted together with a power drill, then wrapped around a 1/8" mandrel. The sterling silver is 20 gauge 1/8" rings.

Osprey is notorious for having rather inaccurate plate images.

Not much help other than that. Egfroth should be posting soon, he's pretty good on Byzantine stuff, as are a few others on here.

Give it a bath in Hydrogen Peroxide (H2O2) or Vinager. Both will work, just keep an eye on it and stir it often for a uniform finish. If it goes too long, it will rust the crap outta the maille.

Cone 6 will not do stoneware-type ceramics (I.E. normal dishes and cups, which are cone 10) but will do earthenware (the red planter pots, normal candleholders, etc.) Porcelain (like toilets and china) is around a cone 15-20 IIRC. That's about what I remember from my ceramics class 2 years ago. Some...
