I might not be of much help here - as my reference predates that which you want to portray, but here goes... 1st Century AD: The Arch of Orange depicts a Centurion who is wearing greaves [cited from: The Roman Army from Caesar to Trajan - Osprey Man at Arms 46 - page 29]. The Osprey book shows these...

Aluminum rub-off is common with aluminum maille - it leaves black stuff (Aluminum oxide) all over everything it touches. It's minor, but it's there. What about sewing "button holes" (about the size of a rivet shaft) in the fabric and riveting the plates on that way?

I need a pattern

And it's not in the pattern section - I checked there first http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/wink.gif I need a pattern for a Roman Coolius or Montefortino helm. I can try and make one myself from the diagrams from the Legio XX website, but if anyone has a pattern they'd care to share, that would mak...

Roman Helm request

Ok, these are for stage use - NOT SCA or combat. I'm looking for a source for several Coolius (type C preferred) roman helms - no crests, fans, or barwork. The Montefortino (type F) would work too. Since they're not for combat, 18 ga steel would be fine, as would aluminum - or even shiny silver...um...

They will rust eventually. The rings moving against each other will wear the galvanization off - but it also wears the rust off.
