What weight of leather does everyone use for strapping armour together?

IMO inside would make more sense. Less likely to snag a blade, look better (no little tails hanging down on your pretty breastplate), and would probably last longer as there would be less abrasion to the strap. I'd imagine standing would be easier on the back and make maneuvering around the stakes easier.

But what do I know - I don't even work with plate yet.

Black? I've seen aluminum rust a really dull grey, but not black.... what's it been exposed to?

A good way to protect against it is to put a nice layer of automotive wax over it (Mother's or Mequires). I think gun wax would work too - but might not polish up as nicely.

I see that the rings aren't completely flattened. Was that by design or are they not doing that yet?

Windex also works well for mildew and such - but have no idea what the ammonia in it would do to the leather. I might have to try it sometime to see...

Get the arming doublet before screwing with the arms/spaulders. Then you know exactly how much to modify them (if they really need it at all)
