I've got that set - fairly useless for planishing as they are quite small. The block is good for setting rivet heads into to keep them from getting mushed while piening.

Don't get stainless - you will frustrate yourself to no end trying to set them.

The helm kit I received was cut by plasma - I have to drill my own holes (which is fine by me). Laser-cut kits have the holes pre-cut -- but that is an entirely different tool set. Put it in a bag before putting it in the dryer - otherwise you get all sorts of gunk in the machinery.

Muratic acid will take care of all of it (use in well ventilated area -- preferably outside). Rinse, then dump into the evaporust. keep it oiled.

That's a good pattern for the top, but to be SCA legal, you'll need some grill-work for the front along with side and back protection (slats work well, especially since you've already mentioned an aventail to hide it).

For now, I think I'll try making some Talorgen's chairs. They look somewhat simple yet will look far better than bag chairs.

Tools: circular saw (6" blade), jig saw. Rest are metal forming (armour) and mechanic's tools :) Skills - not a whole heck of a lot that is decorative. Angus, I have used one of those kits - it's for small parts to match up to things. It will not survive on feast gear (heck, it didn't survive on my small parts).
