Re: Any intrest in my "Carlos the Crusader" helm kit?
I have a long weekend coming up. I will have to tackle my kit and see what I can screw up on it :D My 4 year old daughter wants one. I'll have to see what I can fabricate up for her, since these are way too big and heavy for her. She really likes the Norman Spangen in AAoMK (she reads it to relax be...

Re: Byzantine Lamellar/Klibanion assembly?

Without making one that way and handling it - it would be hard to give a good opinion. The riveting a row to a lea...

Re: Byzantine Lamellar/Klibanion assembly?
Dawson's books indicate the plates are riveted to the leather strips, and those are laced together.

Got a local Shakespeare festival? The organizers there might be able to help - they do sword fighting (well, orchestrated fencing, at best).

Check your local hardware store for the copper bits - my local true value has both (and tinner's rivets for other things). Otherwise, http://rjleahy.com/ is a good bet.

Hey Wade, if you've got folks that are handy (or willing to pound metal) -- Hal has the "Carlos the Crusader" helm kit a few threads down.
Good kit, good learning project for newbies.

Ugh! At least you didn't try and catch it too. That's how it usually goes for me - reflexively drop, then instinctively try and catch (sometimes with a foot).
can it be reshaped, or is it scrap now?

Hey Jamie - would you be interested in selling a partial kit (mild steel, not the special stuff)? I'm interested in making a different type of gauntlet, but pieces #2-#7 would make it a lot easier (top left section of the picture on your website, the articulation over the wrist and back of hand). My wife (who knows very little about armour other than "it's pretty") saw your helm - I said the price you charge.
Her response "For THAT? How does he do it so cheaply?"
She thinks you undercharge too.
