One could go with a Greek helm, since in 6thC-4thC BCE, the Greeks used Scythian mercenaries (particularly archers). A text description of a Scythian helm in a mu...

ring closures are *very* important (or riveting) -- some folks I know had problems with the plates slipping through rings that started gapping.

Hal, if you're hurting and hunched over, then perhaps adjusting the bench heights would be in order.

Know anyone that is an ergonomic analyst (OR industrial safety person)? They may have some ideas. Heck, there might be one or two kicking around the Archive here.

I built one that Mike F drew up the plans for - it's semi-portable; but I can stand and jump on it without worry.

Re: Can anyone identify the maker of this sca helmet?

No, it's paint - look at the picture - they dribbled the dark paint onto the "bronze" on the left side of the nasal (left side of the picture - I know it's "right" of the nasal if you have the helm on).

Looks like the nasal was painted also.

Re: So R&A sale is gonna take a note from Mr Mom ending.....

Post office shipping has gone up (and continues to do so) -- I'm sure UPS and FedEx are doing something similar.

I can't speak for Murdoch, but if the shipping is close to actual (plus a little for boxes, labels, and tape), then there isn't any wiggle room there.

Jamie's kit is actually Zweihammer's design (also here on the forum) That said, there are quite a few of those helms around here on the forum made from those kits (I can't say if they're Jamie's kit or Zwei's kit - same design though). I have never built one, so I can't comment on their ease of cons...

Padding under lamellar (SCA)

So, I'm going to be getting my gambeson made (using the prototype right now)

I'm curious - how much padding should be needed under a suit of lamellar?

What I'm wearing now is rather heavy and warm, and I don't want to be overpadded if I can help it.
