This is an exerpt from Techniques of medieval armour reproduction, the 14th cent., P. 234, as shown on the center brass effigie of Sir John de St. Quintin (no date but reffered to as end of 14th cent) "...the elbow and knee joints are now defended by the more advanced shell articulations that rely o...

not playing SCA but from what I've heard mention time and time again, the very minimum with 16ga galvy would be 5/16" I.d. rings and expect to do regular repairs. 14ga can go as high as 3/8". Alum. I have been told no less than 12.5ga 3/8". For 16ga, 1/4" I would expect it to be very durable, provid...

Jean Paul, the e-bay seller who was offering the extra hammers backed out on his offer so I have to do the same. I've already issued full refunds through paypal for those who had sent me the money and e-mailed those who had a price quote but had not sent the money yet. Good thing I decided to read m...

Guillaume, what temperature range will the kiln handle and what were they used for previously, was it enameling, metal heat treating, firing porcelains or pottery? Thanks, don't know if I could manage it now so I guess it depends on how fast these have to be sold. I would certainly be interested whe...

I'm sorry to announce that the seller has backed on his offer of surplus hammers, I just got an e-mail from him to that effect. As such I will have to return each payment received. If I do come accross another deal similar to this I will make sure to let those interested know. Again, many apologies,...

you should be able to get a decent, if light, helm half using 18ga, just remember to take your time and as soon as you see wrinkles starting to get rid of them by working them out of the edges. if the rawhide face of your hammer doesn't conform to the dish you're using them you might have to pound i...

that yellow tank was not acetylene, didn't have any of the substrate and acetone mix in the cilinder. I think it was straight CO2 that didn't pass muster, I got it for free from the gas wholesaler in town, it was a dump job from someone who couldn't care to get it certified. I have 2 small acetylene...

What kind of a finish are you looking for on those? I could possibly do them once the weather warms up and I have access to the shop again, I've made a set of couters in that style but I'm pretty much limited to munition grade finish and a max of 16ga mild pending funds for a B2 and a decent baldor ...

Hal, looks like the form is working great for you. You might want to do as I did and weld a plate to the bottom with some bolt holes, that way you can secure it in place for semi permanent dishing, or you could partially fill it with lead, the weight should hold it in place and the lead should help ...

Is it a moot point to mention that if we use the tapestry as a reference for form and function then we are to conclude that proportion standards, the britons and the normans were roughly 10' tall and a good 2/3 of that was legs, the thighs were about 1 1/2 the length of the torso. While I don't disc...

for strapping purposes I would recommend either latigo or vegetable tanned leather in a weight of no less than 6oz, preferably 8oz Latigo is expensive but by far the most durable of the two while vegetable tanned will be closer to period material. For strapping you will need something to cut the lea...

Hey, is it just me or does that look like the bathroom hall at Venice house in Prince-Albert? Ok, so yesterday I scored some tire balancing weights to make myself a lead block for repoussage work. Evrything is going good, I've got the puppy cooking in the BBQ outside (the soon to be retired BBQ, I'm not about to grill with it anymore and it's lending itself well for use as a hot-plate substi...

For 200$ CDN you should be able to get a set of harbor freight shears, comparable, but not on par, with a B1.I think they sell for 100$ US and shipping should round that up near 200$CDN Other than that, with 200$ your cutting options are somewhat limited, I shelled out 350$ for my makita shears and ...

I'm surprised how nobody has suggested the Coat of Plates yet. It's easy to make, can look downright snazy if done right and IIRC is used quite a bit even for SCA. I think GAA armouries still sells their deluxe kit (plates, straps, rivets, buckles and leather) for 150$, well within your budget. Once...

I have a 14ga conical spangen made to fit my smallish noggin, I beleive it's 24 1/2" circ. Fit's me well with a padded coif and it's fitted with a deerskin liner but is lacking the strap. My original plan was to use it for our larp but I could'nt wear it with my maille coif so I made myself a new on...
