he's probably reffering to brazing as opposed to welding. I don't think you can get metal hot enough with standard propane unaided. even MAPP gas is a pain to get metal hot enough to forge weld small pieces. I'm not an expert on welding, far from it, but I'm pretty sure you won't get a full penetrat...

Evil That sounds about right for metal supermarket prices for full sheets Gal. You'll probably want to stay away from galvanized steel for armour though, just ask for prices on cold rolled mild steel sheets, they are generaly cheaper than Gal. and more suited for armouring work. Don't underestimate ...

Then there's the idea of the leather suspension liner. While I don't fight SCA I do use one in my helm... There are many essays that mention techniques on how to roll an edge, they explain it way better than I ever could put it into words. If you can ever get your hands on Techniques of Medieval Armour Reproduction by Brian Price, there's a section on edge rolling showing small, medium and large rolls a...

Beverly shears soon to be more affordable?!?
Ok, I'm all excited and this might be premature but I was chatting with one of the armourers from Valentine recently and there was a mention that the Beverly Co. patent on the throatless shears is either running out in 2 months or has run out 2 months ago. If this is true then the concept is up for ...

I just thread a piece of leather thonging through one link, pass under 2-3 more rows and out through another link and then tie off the spaulders through the eyeleted holes. I works great, puts a small bit of strain on th...

I second the choice of vegtan of latigo. 3/4" wide at the most should be more than enough but I don't think I would go less than 1/2". 8oz leather should be plenty as far as thickness is concerned. The cool think with vegtan is that it can be embossed or tooled easier than Latigo so you can realy ad...

This week-end's project? Buckler and a set of knees?
So I've decided to work in the shop this week-end since the temp. is going to be in the mid 30's I won't have to crank the space heater up to max. I've decided to try my hand at a buckler and I guess I'll also work on a set of matching knees for my elbows [img]http://www.quadrant37.com/chris/Silvert...

Spoked wheel pavillions, anyone make and sell them?
I have been interested in making a spoked wheel pavillion for a long time now and after showing the design to a friend he asked if there were any makers/distributors for said tents so I thought I'd post it here in the hopes that I would get a response.
Cheers

Sasuke, any guidelines on fitting a corazzina on either self or a customer. I have had 2, no 3 individuals ask about one and I'd like to try at least one.
