Having seen firsthand some of the project in mid-construction stage when I visited with Matt, I can say it looked amazing even unassembled. I am also curious to know what the issues are with the harness, wether it's a matter of poor fit or wether it's a matter of worksmanship. I will keep an eye on ...

I'd love to get a pattern for said harness as well. Winter is coming and I'm in need of simple (IMHO) projects until the weather warms up and I have access to the yard. Since I'm getting a set of power shears next week I'll have lots of time on my hands to cut up pieces and do some light forming. Pl...

Matt, that's the one and you're the reason I decided to buy it. After seeing how quick it went through the metal when I visited your place I had my heart set on it. For the angle grinder I went with a 6amp black and decker for 70$ with a 3 year warranty. The flap disks are doing short work of cleani...

Julian, thanks for the advice, however, in my logical mind, given equal noise and equal vibration levels, being able to cut through steel about 10 times faster than with a jigsaw the overall result is less noise and less vibration. You mentionned it is the equivalent of what you purchased 22 years a...

Quick question. L1, L3, R4, R7... etc... are those splint templates and if so, what for? If not what are the yellow posterboard pieces for?

Just curious

getting one step closer

Seems like things are finaly getting to a workable stage in my "shop". I went a finaly bought myself a angle grinder yesterday and today went to prepay on a Makita JS1600 power throatless shear. Rated for 16ga mild and 20ga SS it'll be perfect for what I need, mainly boffer armour. I've also got 2 o...

toner transfer system? anyone ever use it to etch brass?

I found this link http://www.dynaart.com while searching for hot-to's on brass etching. Has anyone ever tried this transfer paper and if so how well would it work for etching brass? I'm thinking of trying it out for some small projects and would like opinions if there are any available.

Thanks

I'm reminded of a time, when I was young and was working for my dad, that I had a job where I had to deburr holes in a few thousand plates at a time, several times a week. We had a slightly oversized grinding stone mounted in a drill press and just used light pressure to quickly deburr the holes. yo...

Wulfgar, have you given consideration to deburring the holes that need it? That way it's not going to put undue stress on the lacing? That way you could still go with the silk looking cord and not have a guilty conscience about premature failures?

just a thought.

Plans for Medieval Stocks

Does anyone have some plans or detailed photos for a set of stocks. We are having a feast in november and I've been asked to put one together. Detail pics or drawings of the hinges and locks would be greatly appreciated. Mainly, the minimum size for hand/head holes would be great. Thanks in advance....

You didn't mention what type of planishing hammer you're using. Now this is only musing on my part, but I would gather that if a soft hammer, like rawhide, is used on a planishing surface with such a large radius, what might end up happening is that the blows are pinching too much area at one time a...

Using a rivet set tool in a hardy hole or in a vise, whichever one works best for you, will help. Barring that alternative, you could try peining your rivets on a very hard wood block, that way the rivet head won't deform but you will still be able to pein it. You could also pein your rivets with th...

What happened to Master Cad's website?

Anyone know what happened to it? I'm getting a bunch of 404's when I try to view.

Has it been mirrored anywhere by anyone? I need to reference some pictures of his 14ct. hourglass gaunt as well as his pics of authentic armour.

Anyone?

From my learning experience with leather suspension liners, if you trim your rivets properly and pein them clean they should not interfere while worn. Besides, a slightly padded arming cap also help a touch.

I still have one oxy tank form waiting for a good home. It's in unfinished shape, needs to be welded to a baseplate (shipped with the form) and the inside of the dish needs to be polished and the letters filled with a welding bead.
