Re: We need more people for Battle of the Nations

I am very interested in this but can not go due to work. I will be back in China again while you guys are in Poland. The up side is that with 5 or so multi-week business trips to China this year, airline miles and Hotel points would greatly help with the trip costs next year. :) Also I have a ...

If it is too rough then better planishing & grinding may be the only way to get where you want to be.

Re: Gothic Armour

Sorry if these are kind of vague. 1. Knees should be deeper. 2. More shape to the lames, they should not just be curved in 1 dimension. 3. Front of greave seems to need more shaping. 4. Both pieces of the greave need more shaping at the bottom. I am on a business trip in China right now and do not h...

I think that William West has made the best copy of this armour I have seen.
Here is his website

As usual you should not copy a copy always go back to the original.
Sometimes it is good to see how someone else interpreted / executed a particular part.

Would this work for a heat source, for raising, on the cheap? http://www.harborfreight.com/propane-torch-with-push-button-igniter-91037.html I'm thinking it would have the added bonus of warming the stake as well, helping to reduce loss. Would likely be easy to rig a holder for it too... I have tha...

I am pretty sure Historic Enterprises used to carry loose brass rings, but they aren't listed on their site any more.

Not in the US but Cap-a-pie in the UK does list them on their site.

I have to say it really looks like you're mixing your centuries, to the detriment of the aesthetics of the armor. So I bought a mild steel haubergeon from his Grace Icefalcon, and discovered an issue. If I put it on over just a tunic it fits fine, and once on me, has some excess room through the chest. This is to be expected, his page says its up to a 40 inch chest, and I'm 36 inches with nothing on. The probl...

The archer in the Martyrdom of St. Ursula so frequently copied is wearing fully enclosed elbow cops in his spleynts. Its hard to tell until you get a close view of the painting or a hi-res copy. This has been discussed at length on the AA within the past couple years. No reason you can't have simpl...

even with bokken and wasters, you can hit flat even hitting with the "edge." The edge has to not only be on target, but aligned in conjunction with the force of the motion if it's going to cut -- my mentor and I call not having this conjunction "stick mentality." I think that this is an even bigger...

I imagine marking your blade sideways would make the flat shots technically good, but would then make any real shot you threw technically flat. In other words, a cheezy way to try and fool yourself. I have seen this several times over the years. As a matter of fact I think that it is recommended pr...
