Re: Critique My SCA Kit

I am working on a solution to foot gear... I have some foot and ankle problems and period shoes do not offer the needed support. I may just make some spats or other type of shoe covering. I am also thinking about making my own based upon some Roman boot finds and seeing what I can do about making t...

Re: Titanium Order #2 (Late Summer Delivery-Group Order)

The simple green does seem to be working. I even diluted it about 50/50. And I got a holiday laugh about it. Went to Lowe's to get the cleaner, also recalled I needed a 10w halogen bulb for the bedside table. So I take those to the (not at all busy) cashier, put them on the checkout and say "So, yo...

Re: Black and white suit update.

Yes, several of my breastplates have moving gussets. All of the mid-late 16th c. ones with gussets (which is most of them in my collection) move or did when the rivets weren't over-tightened or paint/crud wasn't in the way. One also has what appear to be fixed gussets. It is the Italian one. This a...

Do any of your breastplate have moving arm gussets?

Will your reproduction have these?

Maybe a good resource.

Looks like the webpage isn't up for it yet. Per the Midrealm calendar, Candlemas will be on Feb 25th. It is normally run as a pool tourney for the first bunch of rounds (the exact number depends on how many folks show up and how quickly the tourney runs). It's a great event, probably the biggest to...

Edward is correct it should close in the back via buckles or points. How big is your neck? A little easier to see the results here, auction results shown next to a small picture of each item.

Heard that there is a chance that the second sale will not happen.
Klingbeil apparently was not pleased with the sale's results.

The "high-end" example you cite has brass trim, clearly not as munitions grade as something without trim. I see what you're getting at but I don't agree its as clear as you think it is. If the brass trim is the main difference you noticed then I do not think you do see what he is getting ...

It is well worth the effort to do some searches here on the archive about helmet padding.

My recommendation is a combination of thin layer of viscoelastic foam (sorbathane) against the metal and a period style padded linen liner against your head.

The padded garment, like Bob mentioned does look a lot like the Lübeck jack (see photos on James B.'s website).
I have a many layered linen jack and I am sure that it is substantial enough (especially if re-enforced @ attachment) to stitch straps to.
