And because of marshals that bend your head back SCA bevors are often permanently attached to the helmet too. This prevents the almost universal gap that will form when you bend your head back in a usual salade/bevor combination. Basically a 15th c. salade and bevor were just designed with differen...

Strip of leather at the finger tips. Holes for a strap/tabs at the knuckle Palm strap on the main metacarpal plate. Holes for strap and buckle on the cuff. hole for attachment to the glove in the base thumb plate. Most certainly originally stitched to the thumb leather but that is now replaced. No ...

That isn't the 'partial gauntlet' I was talking about. I try to keep my references as close as I can to the topic of conversation (in this case 15th c. mitten gauntlets). That gauntlet is late 16th c. There are a lot of things that are common, but it isn't what we are talking about, so I left it ou...

Re: Leather re-enforced Plate Armour?

I went over to the AAF and looked as several pictures of this armour.
There are some shots where you can see inside the left arm quite well.
There definitly are metal plates inside covered in velevt.
The rough edge that Irish pointed out is the edge of the fabric (velvet).

It is likely that on the Freiburg example that the latten strips were reattached and the glove was attached to them then. Re: In 1937 Fishermen found Leather Armour in Chest

I did not realize that the use of splinted arm defenses enjoyed a resurgence in the 1410s. Tom It may not have been a resurgence. 1 sample in 9 from 1410-1419 had splints. If none from 1400-1409 had splints that doesn't indicate a dye-out. Imagine polling 10 people and counting blue eyes, then do t...

Mac,

Matthias just told me that your suspicions are correct.
In his opinion the cuff attachment was not normally (if ever prior to 1500) done.
It is likely that on the Freiburg example that the latten strips were reattached and the glove was attached to them then.

I am not too sure that these are glove attachment points but I did find some interesting "extra" holes on the 2nd mitten lame up from the finger tips on A60. The holes are on either side of the middle finger. They seem to be only on the right gauntlet.

In 1937 Fishermen found Leather Armour in Chest

Over on the AAF in a thread on Leather Armour Bertus Brokamp shared a very interesting picture. In 1937 a fisherman caught a late medieval chest in his nets, off the coast near Westkapelle. It contained amongst others coins and leather leg and arm pieces. The youngest coin was from 1404-1417. This p...
