Re: Early articulated butt defenses
Now we have another. Bob Charrette showed me this the other day. He thinks he snapped the pic at the Cleavland Museum of Art, but he's having trouble finding his notes. I would guess it to be from about 1400-1410. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lDjwsxVDU_4/Vg8kzpPvH_I/AAAAAAAAHWs/GSRfzk5Ktaw/s8...

Re: Queue Is Open - Custom 6mm Riveted Mail
Over the weekend at Days of Knights 2015 a Living History Timeline Event open to the public I was able to do some field tests of my own mail. I participated in an informal Deed of Arms / combat / armour / weapons display :D This presented me with the opportunity to try out a few different configurat...

I had linked to an image that Alcy posted, and I guess he took it down. I could find it somewhere else, but it's really better if it is not before our eyes unless we are discussing how to tell it's a fake. Part of me is pleased to do that, and part of me recoils at the prospect of educating the fak...

In light of this thread maybe Mart's thoughts on the mystery object, from inage #44 in the Thun Sketchbook. In light of the images we have been finding in Mac's Gothic Codpiece thread maybe Mart was right. 2.What is the piece above and right of the bevor? Or below the back and breastplate? Forming the question in one way might lead one to think it's a chin cup, formed the other way it might be another typ...

Mac,
Could you tell us a bit about the quench media you use and how you came to use it?
It seems most of the time I only hear people talk of using water, various oils, or a brine solution.

That one is from Andrea Carloni's Flickr album for Museo Nazionale del Bargello https://www.flickr.com/photos/andrea_carloni/albums/72157653034136535 I think the sleeves, in my post above (burgundy velvet), are actually on display next to these. How do the legs go on over that? Still tie to the doublet? Ken, That is a great question, one that we don't really know the answer to what they did. I have been pointing to the same spots on my doublet. This means that I must fish the points through 2 layers of mail to get to the legs. After having...

There has been an 11th century geared calendar on my project wish list for over a decade. Well, that sounds like fun! Is there an an extant example of that?! If I am lucky, there may even be room for a change of clothes or two

I sent you two other examples on Pinterest, one of which is the statue you mentioned.
I don't have time to post them now.
Here is the link to the scan of manuscript that the first Image you posted came from

I am Facebook friends with a bunch of those guys.
They certainly are a top notch group.
This is an annual event and they are actively trying to get more outside / international participation.
So if anyone is interested and thinks they have the kit to participate then by all means contact them.
