A question for anyone reading along: the usual method of closing cuisses and greaves is to hinge the outside and buckle to the inside, yes? However, I seem to recall a conversation on here a few months ago that had manuscript images of the cuisses being buckled on the outside. This is the thread (w...

Re: Polearm Question: Replaceable Heads?
Is anyone aware of any extant polearms that had customizable / replaceable bits? For example, a setup where you might remove the warhammer head of a bec-de-corbin and replace it with an axe head (using a rivet or something) to create a classic poleaxe? Or replacing the back-spike with a hammer head...

Speaking of rolling, I'm still curious about the roll technique Scott mentioned. I'm sure that I'm not the only one looking forward to seeing the finished product (rolled edges and all) - I'd suggest that you use Mac's "cheat" for rolled edges on these since they need to be *really* tight: he hamme...

But what about A 58, the other 'Sigmund gothic', also made by Lorenz H.? Wien does have quite a lot of parts that could be arranged in several plausible ways. These are very good questions. I also would like to learn about his source for the idea of protogarniture and how he ties back to the Thun i...

My interest in this thread has been rekindled due to some of the info we are talking about in this other thread A62, made for Archduke Sigismund or Emperor Maximilian? While rereading Dr. Terjanian's article I noticed that he says "which seems to be a grandguard" in reference to the item in image #44. Re: Compression Articulation Crotch Area
It's true. The surviving ones are all pretty tightly grouped in time. On the other hand, the idea seems to go back further. There's that Gothic armored statue of St Georg in Nuremberg which we discussed on the Armsandarmourforum http://www.armsandarmourforum.com/forum/index.php?/topic/1355-saints-i...
