It's the opposite, most were open face and only a few had face plates. A lot of Norman Nasal style helms in the 12th century, also round top helms with and without nasals.

1200 was kind of a turning point through, and the closed helms became more and more popular.

Next time I need to remember that I have a camera in my bag. there where some very nice kits that I wish I had a portrait of. Baron Athos looked very fine, but there were several other kits that inspired me to improve my historical portrayal.
