Re: 2011, Kits...Let's see them!
My CotT kit sans helmet. Nissan how many kits do you own....both those look great along with you normal stuff. Vebrand I would love to see a picture of him in his 14th century suit, wearing the Hastings helmet, weidling his Katana! nah, it would be better with his CotT armour, samurai helm and the ...

Re: What was your favorite Pennsic moment?
Thor, that would be Viscount Bengt. Pretty close on the phonetics. glad you had fun fighting against us. We all had a blast. Mucho fighting to be had. I'd say one of my favorite moments was when the Prince of the Mists tried to leg me and leave me during the field battle... let's just say he didn't ...

Re: SCA at an evolutionary cross-roads (A discussion)
Been around for more than ten years. Got an AoA. Nothing in the last 8 years or so. I get lost in the shuffle between "Good Lord we need new guys, stat!" and "Oh he's a triple peer, let's give him some more stuff!" It's pretty discouraging. Many folks I know who started after I ...

In general if I am on my ideal schedule it looks like this: Tue-gym, Wed-practice, Thur-gym, Sat/Sun- event or practice. Mondays and Fridays are my recovery days. The gym workout is geared towards helping my fighting however I started going to the gym mainly for weight loss. I do weights for my arms...

Granted that the flat to the gut or chest wouldn't kill or incapacitate but I was simply showing a "safe" design that wouldn't have to be an "experimental" weapon. I don't have a weapon made like the above but rather have a buttspike on mine as a "game" equalizer since ...

A bearded axe, constructe with the blade (black area) of leather (See Vitus tutorial) with a foam padding of .75 inches added to the top (red area) and you can smash in the face as much as you want. Now, I wouldn't expect my opponents to take a thrust to the legs from that but a gut/groin/face thrus...

I spent an entire summer redisigning my style. I completely changed what I was doing. It helped me get out of the rut. Think about what you are doing and how you are doing it. Then imagine a different way to accomplish your goals. Then practice that new way until it works or you realize it "won...

Is this really a problem? Holy crap. I would be mortified if I broke someones kit. Indeed you would be Your Grace, because you are a decent guy and in your case it would be accidental. Most of us would be unhappy. I believe the issue discussed is about intentionally damaging an opponent's spear, or...

The number of awards available to give out in the SCA and more importantly, the number given out, has adversely affected the SCA. Potential members and new members (those under a year or two), DO NOT understand what awards, regalia, etc means. They see a coronet, and only see "crown". The...

Such blows are absolutely thrown for the intimidation factor that they bring into a bout - and may not be thrown for effect on the current opponent, but for someone further along in the list. That is something I hadn't considered before. Long term intimidation... interesting tactic, thanks. Slightl...

I usually go through about 2-3 swords a year but currently I seem to be in the 1 a month... I think it might be the rattan that I have at the moment. Quality is far more important than volume. To paraphrase B. Lee - Don't worry about the guy who practices 100 blows, but throws them poorly. Worry about the guy who can throw 1 blow perfect, every time. Or to put it another way, you can practice one blow a thousand times, or a thousand blows once e...
