That is simultaneously too wide and too narrow a view. A good shot should be unpleasant when it hits minimal armour or none however If it hits good solid armour ....say.... a globous breastplate I would hesitate to say it should feel at all. I actually disagree about being just Cardio.. I find it to be more Anearobic. The fights don't really last long enough in a tourney to become an Aerobic endurance test. I was thinking the battle of Stamford Bridge would be a bit more doable in the first year in that the Saxons and the Normans essentially look the same except for the axes and horses instead of the Vikings.....and the SCA has alot of Viking persona guys.
