Excessive?
So what is SCA excessive? I have never been hit with what I consider excesive. ...... I have been hit were I saw sparks in my vision. I have been hit where my ribs hurt for a week after but.... I HAVE NEVER BEEN HIT EXCESSIVE in my opinion. I want to know I was hit. If I have had enough I will leave...

I agree with Adam about the dogpiling, I was just trying to show Beastman that he isn't the only one. Like I said the quality of the steel work on my gaunts is fine it is just the small stuff like having to restrap the articulation on the thumb and repairing the cuff that shouldn't have to be done o...

Gloving Gauntlets
I need some ideas on how to attach gloves to my clamshell gauntlets. Can I see some pics of how others have attached theirs? I have had them strapped and just inserting the gloved hand but I don't like how loose they are that way. The gauntlet always shifts around and then I get a nasty rivet driven...

I bought a pair of the clamshell gauntlets about 2 years ago with the brigandine cuff. IN MY OPINION I overpaid for the gauntlets. There is really no problem with the metalwork however the leather of the brigandine is too thin for SCA fighting IMO and tears easily. The articulation of the thumbs is ...

Sir Morgan, it sounds like a really cool format. The list mistress doesn't have to much of an issue since it is random pairings each round of whoever is left over. However you need a lot of Marshals. Here in Drachenwald that is often more of a problem than anything else. We are so small that the few...

They will not make a medium at the moment. I am not sure why they will not.....
I would venture to say because usually with aketon/gambeson on underneath mediums usually wind up too small. The larger one just hangs a bit longer on a slightly smaller guy and can be trimmed.

Kata: Sir Vitus, that was an EXCELLENT idea, ....Kata in armour. The issue is: Is there such as thing as a basic SCA Kata? (as opposed to one borrowed from eastern martial arts) (I know the answer is no, but....) It would be a HUGE beginning if someone with authority could summon, perhaps even at p...

A Progress Thread for Noobs
Here is a collection of pics showing my kit as it started not quite 3 years ago. My kit is not complete and is actually about to move a couple of steps closer in the next few weeks as I prepare for Crown Tourney in April.

Reductio ad absurdum. Ok, so let's back off of it a bit. New guy's first tourney fight. Do you utterly trash him and blow him off the field, or do you give him exactly enough to get the job done without appearing to show off? If you give that new guy 110%, no holds barred, yes, you are giving him y...

Yes. Give your best and best me unequivocably or piss off. I don't step on the field to recieve anyones half-assed performance. Not even a Duke's. Audax, I am right there with you that is why I posted that question. I admit that there are times that I will wait out a newbie or work my defense a lit...

I am going to reply to this in a meandering way; I like to be given a stout blow that there is absolutely no question in my mind. I have been questioned before after a tourney by a visiting knight, actually not even by him but the issue was raised by him to some knights of my kingdom at the event. I...

The circle shot that I use that seems the most effective is to take a sweeping shot towards the shield side leg (assuming a right handed opponent) miss on purpose then step forward slightly and thrust to the sword shoulder joint. I recently used that against my knight and he obligingly went for the ...

Pole Arm Technique
So as an offshoot of my other topic of fighting differently, what are some good pole arm techniques for handling sword and shield opponents. I really like using polearm, it can be fun but getting clubbed like a baby seal by the better fighters with sword and shield sucks. I can surprise people somet...

Do you Find Yourself Fighting Differently
With different weapon styles? I fight right handed with sword and shield yet find myself fighting "left handed" with Pole Arm, then "right handed" with greatsword. Can't seem to find which is more comfortable, left foot or right foot forward with a shield etc. It always seems to ...

Sir Corby, I don't know that I can remember ever seeing your shield, just about every pic I have seen of you is with a polearm in your hand or you on the sidelines watching. I would be interested in seeing your shield. I am considering moving my personna up to the Second Crusade and would like to se...
