Have heard of it, like you have, but havent done it yet. I took someone elses advice and got some of the silicon lubricant, and kept my shirt in my basement. So far it is still looking good, and dont see any rust building up, after I tiook off the grease it got packed up in. And that was a week and ...

That is a wonderful dream, Vitus, and hopefully one day, we are lucky enough to see it happen. If we all do our part, hopefully others will see it also, and try to do their part also. I make it a point for all my squires, and anyone in my warband. Each year, we find one thing in their hard kit that ...

Lol, my wife wishes it would of. Luckily, work has been sending me out of town a lot, so have been getting everything with my expense checks. Currently, trying to convince them, to let me drive to Atlanta, the 25th to 28th of Feb. That would be a very nice mileage check. Maybe even take a day off on...

Lol, nice catch Olafr. And yeah, unless you play in that personna, you most likely would not know, that most folks who play in that time period, really dont like being called vikings or whatever. I know I have seen Mord respond as such, as I have seen some of the others, who play in the 9th to 10th ...

I dont want to see them go. I actually want them to stay. But instead of changing the rules for everyone. Would rather them see if they can get rules to adjust to what they want, for their specific tourneys. Which well, I see no reason why they couldnt be able to. Since I see no one having a problem...

Yeah I know the thread was starting as tongue in cheek, and was somewhat a joke. Just a bit edgy lately, with a few folks, and yes I know it is only a few, that seem to think, that if your personna is below 12th century or something, that your taking the easy way out. Like I said, I have spent more ...

Sorry Murdock, still being effected by the other posts so I lumped this one in it. I understand your point, which is why when I talk specifically about my personna, I normally will say 5th cent romano-brit. But I am sure I have said early period before. Specially if I am talking about a bunch of fol...

Honestly, does it really matter? I seriously think some of ya, have nothing better to do, than to just sit back and try to think of new ways to make those who are not like you, feel like they should change. Its a beautiful thing about the sca, that it is multicultured, and has a lot for everyone. I ...

Uh sorry, have seen a whole lot of folks, who kind of sort of portray the 14th just as bad as some of the genri-celts. So please, dont think you guys are special or something. How about this. You guys do the best you can to make the SCA a better place, and we will do the same. Maybe a reason some ar...

Lol, been entertaining this idea again. Here is what I have currently. VSE rivetted chainmail - It goes slightly below my elbow, and down to my knees. Darkhearts Stealth gauntlets I think maybe if I got an aventail and hung it below the brass work and across the face, I could maybe pull off the look...

I have had to research more, and buy more books for my 5th century romano-brit personna, than I ever did for my 14th cent one. Just a lot more easily attainable info for the later periods, which to be honest, was a lot more fun, though on several occassions a lot more frustrating. Due to that period...

Yeah, when I was looking at staying with my 14th cent kit, but better the look and feel of it. I started looking around for folks who did the voiders also. It really is a nice look, to go with a good breastplate without all the added chain. Was going to go with a nice breast and back, go with voider...

Yeah your right about the gauntlets. But like the other argument was going on, fighting with baskets makes things like you were not wearing gauntlets. But its also why I got a pair of Morgans Stealth gauntlets. At least they just look like a pair of black gloves from a distance, and not shiny finger...

Oh beleive me, I understand what your saying as far as the earlier periods go. Granted, I fight in a rivetted chainmail shirt down to just above my knees, a set of Darkheart Armories stealth gauntlets, and other things. In all honesty, my early period rig weighs a lot more than my 14th century sport...

Was going to agree with you there for a sec Tim, cause after reading it again in Corpora, it doesnt say we all are nobility, but that we are portraying times of the nobility, which would of also had servants and such. I would have no problems going to a plate is proof way of dealing with things. Granted, I have an early personna, so really doesnt help me much. I wear chainmail and have an open face helm. But I also fight with a normal size elliptical shield for my personna also, so I have a bit of a different cov...

Not that I have seen Oswyn, and to be truthful, I am trying to think who in our kingdon uses plastic shields. Like Robin said, you can shield punch shield to shield, shield to weapon, and can do a push for shield to body. I practice it a lot now, since I have gone to a centergrip, and have a lot of fun with it. Plus is another reason why hitting a heavy bag for extra work is nice. My left gets used to doing...

Yep, I would seriously doubt that 1% of actual SCA fighters freguent this board. Yeah, you see some big names here, but this is a very, and I mean very small proportion of actual SCA fighters. Nope, cause the gauntlet is protecting your hand. Reason for the basket hit, is its letting you use a rattan sword as if your weilding a sword in your barehand. Take it from someone, who is having to relearn how to fight currently, cause I am fighting in finger gauntlets now. It is a major differenc...

Have fought in a few counted blows that used these rules, or close to them. Great weapons had more effect in the system, and same with the helms and such. The one that jumps out at me the most, was counted blows to 5, and great weapon hits counted as 2. Was very fun to play in, and would not mind it...

Aye, CA has gone with ebbs and flows for a long time in the 18 years I have been playing. When I first started, it was very big, at least in Atlantia. Now as far as Pennsics go, I am not sure. Like Alaric said, I know romans used them, and if I remember right, the city troops used smaller versions of the ones you normally see from early 100ad and before. After that, they started going to big oval shields I believe. Will see if I can find some pics tonight. But if I remember right, some of...
