A bevor with a kettle helm would be; while a bit rare, historic.
I have no idea how working it out with a grill and bevor would be done exept to say it can be done. Your range of movemt might be limited a bit but kettles give good vision without much movement of the head anyways.

... And if you ask me it's more unsafe than most think (at times)... There have been two times I really became seriously worried about my safety and getting injured in this game: both involved me being stuck in a pile of bodies in a train wreck melee at Pennsic... Screw that stuff... and it does mak...

Every dark cloud has a spring steel lining... 8-)
I went to an Orthopedic Surgeon today for an evaluation of pain I’ve been having in my right hip. As was suspected I have mild osteoarthritis in that hip and while I don't need any operation the pain is something I'm just have to live with for the rest of my life . To help prevent it from getting ...

Kettle helms were sometimes worn over bassinette helms like in the rub above... other kettles, like mine shown blow, combined the two helm designs to get the best of both worlds... glance and brim cover. If you took a bassinette helm design and added a brim to it like in the fist picture you'd have ...

I too have heard this story from several sources in the SCA and I suspect there is some credence to it. Guys like Nissan have been in the SCA since the mid to late 70’s and I pretty sure they started with the 2 inches above the top of the knee rule. So if they did have total leg targeting it was b...

I've used a center grip heater and found that setting the grip at about the 1 o'clock position felt best for me... It seemed to be a more natural position for the hand than 12 or 3 o'clock. Notice the two bolts are a bit off center from the arrows that are centered on the shield... that's the slight...

I’d like to attend a few fighter practices if I can and I’d like to know what the loaner armor situation is there. I can drag my kit with me if I have to.

You can tie a cord to the square D ring so you can find it easier under your chin. The one criticism of this system I have (I used it on my first helm for over two years) is that I wished the straps and buckle was a bit bigger... I had a hard time getting mine into the right hole with the strap unde...

A great cause and a very challenging tournament: you don't know what style/type you’re fighting with (or against) till you step into the pit. So you tournament circuit types should really enjoy the challenge and the change of pace. Like Animal said all you need to bring is a set of gauntlets. Ther...

Your analogy is correct; It's how I would play it... I got my hand on a blade and it gets hit, shame on me for it getting caught there. I want to add that if I were half swording and got struck on the (blade) hand I'd take it as an arm shot... You got to take the bad with the good sort of speak. Cur...

When you get your file developed you can elect to have your pictures put on a disc (as well as on negatives) in JPEG format so you can post pictures here and appease Nissan. pictures? My Lady took some picures, but in the 35mm format. They are being developed today. I am not sure about any digital i...

I'm sure real half-swording involved a good set of gloves or gauntlets designed with half-swording in mind (along with proper training at doing it). My question would be how do you think it would impact our sport? I think it would be a positive impact and bring more hand and a half sword use into th...

I mean that as a man who's been married over 22 years... we'll be buried one on top of the other in the Allegany ...
