I don't have any handle on the useful life in period. I do know of an example of a Captain's bottle, a bit out of our period, that had silver fittings and was a presentation item, complete with engraved plate memorializing the gift. I would think that item was expected to be around for awhile. Woul...

Clear Jello (no sugar), the dirty little secret of Hide Glue users. Knox gelatin - although it is quite a bit weaker than the hide glue - it is a LOT more flexible. How about a 1 to 10 rating with 10 being hide glue? Where would the gelatin rate? For both strength and flex... What about mixing the ...

( Hardened with parifin and lined with breweres pitch. ) I know anything lasts longer when cared for, but time in hot cars and out in...

If I were going to do embossed ribs such as those on the small costrel (nice piece!) I would start by laying out all of my tooling designs on the flat leather using a stylus with the leather properly cased. I would mark the ribs on the flesh side as well as on the grain. Cased = damp right? ( still...

Welp. Costrel just went on my must aquire ASAP list. Any indication that these may have been died, painted, laqured etc? I assume not gilded. if you could afford gilding you would at least be drinking from a pewter costrel. Sean Sean I do not know if painting is correct but i did a paint/wax test n...

Started on the form for shaping the ends of the bottle Pictures soon. I've decided to round the top of the bottle over more.... If you look back at the photo of the end of the paper model you can see a circle drawn in pencil.... I've followed the top edge of the circle. I decided to make it flat on ...

So then what is the real difference between arrows and bolts? With the number of other things that are completely different than there historical counterparts I do not see much difference myself. Arrows are overpowered also? I built the first combat siege engine in the Midrealm and wrote the first s...

From a another point of view what happens if we acknowledge the threat and take precautions and then fail to stop an arrow and we then get an injury? Any lawyer is gonna jump on that so fast your head will not have time to spin. And chances are that lawyer is not gonna be acting at the behest of the...

I do not believe that there are very many situations where someone has zero responibility for themselves at least at some level. Even if that level is simply paying attention the activity around you and making a effort to understand what risks are possible. That does not mean that I feel the archer'...

avery and i agree 100% in this. i find it shocking that people would get up in arms when something is enacted to help protect those people that are not participating on the field. shocking. to think that anyone would cry this as unfair just so they can enjoy what they do without any concern for tho...
