Do not try to save time by putting off the clean up until later. Chances are you will have to stop to clean before you can complete what you are working on anyway.... ( I spent a couple hours cleaning this morning BEFORE I could paint and clear-coat some things.... and I had to wait for the dust fro...

Also, any reason why the index and pinky fully ground out? Instead of simply making it go for the side and top that is exposed? if the finger is covered by metal that only grounds out on one side it is still possible for a blow to transfer crushing force to the finger in the course of a standard fi...

As to whether the artist then would know their subject - I hesitate to condemn their knowledge. Sometimes their representations are obviously flawed (fechtbuch illustration showing two right hands gripping a sword, for example. Or a painting I was examining at the Met in which the artist clearly co...

Re: old try
I tried making these for SCA fighters a while ago but it never got off the ground. Is this what you had in mind? not exactly.... something like this... C... index ( ... middle ( ... ring C... pinky periods ( ... ) are there just for spacing Full wrap on the outer fingers and just metal plates on th...

spaulder vs. pauldron ?
Knowing that there are multiple names for many different pieces of armor.... Does the word spaulder hint towards a definable difference than the word pauldron? Or is this just another example of the SCA using the wrong word? Is it a time period thing? A place thing? Other examples are welcome in the...

'Hybrid' Finger Guantlet question
Just a question I'm not thinking about trying this myself. I've thought about a kind of hybrid finger gauntlet. The index and pinky would be a full wrap finger where the metal would ground out on the weapon and the ring and middle finger would not.... Anyone made any like this? How did they work? Wh...

I have no drawing skill, but this is kind of what I meant, except with a more medieval look You mentioned some 'turning' involved in your idea... What kind of turned elements were you thinking? None of the parts on that one are done on a lathe. Clothes rack.... I know a guy locally that has a nice ...

Baron Conal Do you have a lathe? I am interested in forming some leather vam and rearbraces and ideally would like a tulip-shaped last of specific size to anchor the leather while they case harden. It is an easy project with the right tools but I don't have the right tools. Sean yes and no.... I wa...
