Lovely! What are you planning on doing for the ironwork? Edward has commissioned them from Fungi Forge. But I have a similar project in mind that needs a pair of hinges and a clasp.... We could talk about that one... ( no real starting date for that project.... The cobbler's kids have to cabinets.....

Pattens are a good way to use up small scraps from other projects and to fill time while glue dries and the bench is covered up by other stuff... Except my drill press is a bench model and the cross pieces won't fit for end grain work.....


I thought about trying to turn the drill press around and have it
hang off the end of the bench.....


but for a $20 doweling jig.... its just not worth the effort. :wink:

Yup. Same thing, same factory.. same crappy cosmoline all over it when you take it out of the waxed paper. ...but the customer asked originally for something in the area
of 5 feet wide for the cabinet....

I'm checking with him before I go any further.

I still think the proportions look better with the narrower
opening but it's his call.

The MoL book leans towards the decorative tin pins in bone and antler handles.... Too ambitious for a first knife? you can also use some of the stabelized woods. But if you really want to splurge you can use mamoth ivory which you can find in white and not just browns. A quick look through the MoL Knives and Scabbards shows butt capped knives in profusion in the 14/15th Century. Best way is to buy this book and see what was done originally.
