Lovely! What are you planning on doing for the ironwork? Edward has commissioned them from Fungi Forge. But I have a similar project in mind that needs a pair of hinges and a clasp.... We could talk about that one... ( no real starting date for that project.... The cobbler's kids have to cabinets.....

14th Century Cabinet project
MacTavish's Cabinet project is progressing nicely This is the cabinet used for inspiration for the one I'm building. http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r295/ConalOhAirt/Edwardscabinet.jpg My first rough sketch/plan for the cabinet. http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r295/ConalOhAirt/edwardchestdrawi...

Scaling up a jig?
m http://www.leevalley.com/US/images/item/woodworking/assorted/92w6701s1b.jpg Lee Valley makes this nice little wire bending jig. I want a bigger one. I'm thinking something big enough to handle up to 1/2" rod. I'd consider doing it out of wood but I'm thinking that I'd be working it hot and th...

My Pattens are about 1/3 completed. And have been for about 10 years now. (Maybe longer, I don't want to know...) So yeah, assuming a reasonable price, I would be interested. I finally have some nice shoes and would prefer to not get them ruined. Is there anything that can be done to the bottoms to...

checking interest levels for pattens
Pattens are a good way to use up small scraps from other projects and to fill time while glue dries and the bench is covered up by other stuff... How much interest is there for pattens? http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r295/ConalOhAirt/Pattens/7f89-1.jpg First pair I made... can't find another pic...

I wonder if a forum just for our medieval version
of camping would be handy...
or subdividing the Interpretive Re-creation
into subtopics.....
Or maybe I should not post pre-coffee.......

For that many people I'd be making some scouting
missions to places like...
Gordon Food Service
Costco
Sam's Club
to see what they have....
Even if all you get is ideas.

No, I just looked at them at both places. I don't dowel very much.. I have a real nice biscuit joiner I typically use, and/or I just use a story stick and my drill press if I'm going to do doweling. A friend of mine, however, has a doweling jig much like that.. and LOVES it. The project I'm gonna u...

Yup. Same thing, same factory.. same crappy cosmoline all over it when you take it out of the waxed paper. Only difference is the carton for the Sears one probably isn't mildewed and stinky, as opposed to the HF one. I take it you have one? How well does it work? heh.... stumbled across this about ...

Re: Vitus System - I like it!
As long as the "Vitus system" is an option that is offered in the spirit of friendship and chivalry , I think it will be well received! I look forward to trying it in Caid. -Guillaume There is the central point to it. Any system offered in such a way CAN work. They system we use works eve...

The MoL book leans towards the decorative tin pins in bone and antler handles.... Too ambitious for a first knife? I was considering using only hand tools to shape the handle.... files and scrapers.... not sure about the drilling of the tiny holes for the pins..... Thoughts? Where do I go to get bon...

you can also use some of the stabelized woods. But if you really want to splurge you can use mamoth ivory which you can find in white and not just browns. But ivory also has a serious health factor to it. I personaly would use rivets. Its a more common thing than pinning. I would also grind off the...

I think that would be very possible on the fighting fields of the SCA. I mean, look at what the Pennsic COmbat of the Thirty has done in a VERY short time! It has inspired not only a bunch of people to do 14th c portrayals, but SCA fighters who portray other periods to step up their game as well! I...

A quick look through the MoL Knives and Scabbards shows butt capped knives in profusion in the 14/15th Century. Best way is to buy this book and see what was done originally. It's a fiddly process but fairly straight forward. Got that book already ( that is a great series of books, I need the horse...
