I used rapid rivets (2 piece) in all three of the CoP's I have made. One was suede, one is a utility hide (blacksmith 4 oz), and the last was a St. Maurice style in canvas. The suede one was my first, it is still around as loaner gear, I didn't know better, that is why I used it. The utility hide, l...

What I use for hidden arms is a splinted leather vambrace (ABS splints), and a wingless elbow cop mounted on Trace Adams knee pad all tied together with paracord. It is not elegant, but it is low profile, the pads are washable and it is comfortable. The only thing I am not happy with is the ABS, but...

HF's manual has some tips and technical information on how to bend with the device. I did not like their directions. The bender is a Hausfield knock off, this is the Hausfield site, which I have not explored: m Metalmeet bulletin board sometimes have some technical tips that are useful, also try cus...

Well, I think preference comes in to play a little also. I have a decent wood shop and I used to do a fair amount of wood work, not so much any more. My opinion is that really fine wood working comes through the hand process, but it makes it so darned expensive that the labor costs out way the value...

Honestly Cat, I think it turned out VERY good looking. One thing I have done when I have done bottoms on cylinders was to mold the leather up into the base so that it sat flat. It also made sewing a little easier. I will have to see if I have any pictures of the leather buckets I made for Valley For...

If you have the product manual or can download it from their site, there is an 800# , on the front page, you can order parts from. I have never tried this, but I would try that first. Hausefield parts will probably be higher in price (quality also). I have one of the benders and I have used it twice ...

I think the nose on the planishing hammer one is longer, at least I think it is on mine. And as Aaron said, the trigger is not there. Actually, the casting on mine doesn't have the milling done the whole way in the trigger area either. I bought there $9.95 sale one to convert to a rivet peener, it w...

I think it looks nice, your stitching looks awesome. In the painting it shows what looks like balls at the top of each pouchlet, what do you think these are? drawstring tensioners? or some thing else? It also looks like the drawstrings are in a different position than on your reconstruction. Not tha...

In that video, I believe his mechanical hammer (the one that did the big dents) was a helve hammer. The pnuematic hammer was his panishing hammer. That being said, I think that what you are proposing, if I understand correctly, a mechanical planishing hammer, is a good idea. Especially a good one fo...

Years ago, when we painted aluminum race car bodies, we used aluminum oxide primer, then scuffed it and applied the paint over it. It surely does get shiny if you used automotive paint. Surf around the web for information on painting aluminum boats also...they can give you the specifics. My aluminum...

Question on Research materials
How does one find back issues of the Journal of The arms and Armour Society?
I have searched on line, but haven't really found any answers. I am trying to expand away from using someone elses research and delving into doing my own.
Any ideas or comments would be appreciated.
