You may want to check out Lowes and Home Depot for same canvas drop cloths. They have differing weights also. If you have an Ollie's outlet (There is one in York PA) They had them for extremely low prices...

Cheaper than dirt has Italian surplus 100% wool blankets, but they have a stripe down the middle.
I picked some green WWII vintage ones up for $5 a piece at the local flea market, the guys in my WWII group ate them up pretty quick.

There were some helms that were similar to lamellar construction, mostly Turkish(?) IIRC.

The only part of my gloves that show is the palms and occasionally the padding if the leather cross straps loosen up. That being said, maybe you could get a pair of Police "sap" gloves that have powdered lead on the fingers and back of the hand, take the lead out and replace it with paddin...

I used leather palmed (Mylak) street hockey gloves with the padding already attached, sewed them into the steel gauntlet at the finger tips.

I use a leather strap about 1 1/2 wide that has a piece of siloflex for a grip it narrows down to grip, and it is tight enough with a hockey glove on I do not have to grip hard to hold the shield.

IIRC, there is a pattern described in TOMAR that is 4 squares with triangles connecting them and triangles at the temples...I tried it, but did not like the result.

I think it is a good price. I paid $40 for mine. The problem with most of the big stuff is that if you find it on line (new or via ebay) the shipping kills the good deals. At $80, sounds good for both....I would love to get another...
