Freiman, I have seen some people use the upholstery tacks with the brass rosette heads, I have never tried them. They have them at Home Depot and Lowes around here, not sure if there is an equivalent in Germany. My first Brig I use the rapid double head rivets from Tandy leather factory, they do loo...

If you paint them with Rustoleum it will prevent rust. Sort of what it's for. Smart@$$.. LOL! Ok, so since it's not horrible or deep, it sounds like... use scotch pads to shine it up and then polish it to a mirror shine, right? Any special brand of polsh or something? Walmart have it? Then keep it ...

There is a website that has a shield press that is made from a couple of different heights of wood that do not require a curve cut. They run the length of the shield rather than the width. I have never used one so I have no comment there. There are some that have though. The other option is to use r...

Kilkenny, Let me ease your mind that I am not one of those people that would pad and tape a sledge and say sure, why not? I, by no means am an expert in SCA, but I am a reasonable man. You may be able to draw some ideas from Naval Cutlasses from the 17th and 18th Century. Several Civil war Sutlers (merchants) have them sometimes VERY Cheap. The guard offers alot of hand protection.
