I believe our youngest fighter is in his late 20's. Our population ranges in age from 16 to 65. Most are in the 35- 50 age range. The younger members are children of members, but they have interests insode the SCA, so it is not that they are being forced to go.

From what I was taught:
Dishing/doming stretches the metal from the center out and thins the metal at many points
and
raising/shrinking compresses the metal in the middle, but thins it out at the edges.

Depending on the size, you may have to take a standard pattern and modify it to fit. When I had my regementals made, the largest size chest I could find at the time was 48, and I wear a 52. My mother was a steamstress and she modified the pattern to fit my frame.
