I ran into similar issues trying to get buff leather when I was doing a lot of Rev War items. When I could not get Buff leather (which is a heavy suede like leather) I sanded the grain side off cowhide and waxed and chalked it. It was not the best solution. Buff was running me $17 a square foot when...

I bought it back when I first started and then upgraded (several times) but I hang on to th eold one for a loaner for guys who are new that aren't sure what they want to do or if they will like it or not. The blades on mine were pretty brittle and the adjusting screws came loose and caused the blade to go out of alignment when a new guy was using the shear, chipping the blade. My bad for not being right on top of things. Anyway, I changed out the adjustment screws, reground the blade and modified the...

Armourers mark

Does anyone know which modern armourer has marked their pieces with a plain "A" ? I found a helm with what appears to be a capital "A" in what looks like Arial font... It is well made, at first I thought it was an Anshelm Helmet, but I saw his mark is a sheild with an "L&quo...

Working with a herald who understands the way things work can virtually ensure your submission goes through. If they send a few emails, a submission can be essentially "pre-cleared" by the very same people who make the final decisions. There's always the possibility that someone will come...

MJ, In my experience, it can take anywhere from 6 months to three years to get a final name and devide passed. My name passed first, within 6 months and my device took close to a year. My wife's name took two submissions and over a year and her device is still not accepted, it is going on year 3 now...

I use Tide brand laundry detergent to remove cos on things that heavy petroleum solvents would destroy. Then coat the metal parts with a water displacement oil (like WD) As for the leather straps, be careful with them, but if you let them air dry (no heat), they "should" be o.k. Depends on...

What William said about Rec-Specs. They are tough, and cheaper than contacts. Contacts also work, at least with your helmet on. Fold your dollar in half. roll it up as tight as you can. bend it in half. Now open bottle like you would with a lighter.

Irish,
I am glad you posted that picture. It is so hard to explain how to do that with most new guys in my area. It works well though and has the added benefit that "if" you were buying a custom made helm, you could send your proposed liner to the armourer for fitting....
