I ran into similar issues trying to get buff leather when I was doing a lot of Rev War items. When I could not get Buff leather (which is a heavy suede like leather) I sanded the grain side off cowhide and waxed and chalked it. It was not the best solution. Buff was running me $17 a square foot when...

I bought it back when I first started and then upgraded (several times) but I hang on to th eold one for a loaner for guys who are new that aren't sure what they want to do or if they will like it or not. It has been through three guys so far and is st...

The blades on mine were pretty brittle and the adjusting screws came loose and caused the blade to go out of alignment when a new guy was using the shear, chipping the blade. My bad for not being right on top of things. Anyway, I changed out the adjustment screws, reground the blade and modified the...

Armourers mark
Does anyone know which modern armourer has marked their pieces with a plain "A" ? I found a helm with what appears to be a capital "A" in what looks like Arial font... It is well made, at first I thought it was an Anshelm Helmet, but I saw his mark is a sheild with an "L&quo...

MJ, In my experience, it can take anywhere from 6 months to three years to get a final name and devide passed. My name passed first, within 6 months and my device took close to a year. My wife's name took two submissions and over a year and her device is still not accepted, it is going on year 3 now...

What type of water are you using? Heavily treated tap water sometimes leeches through. I used to collect rain water for leather work and tanning hides. In my experience, it will depend on what the discoloration is a white chemical look or just darkened leather in spots. I know from my experience tha...

What William said about Rec-Specs. They are tough, and cheaper than contacts. Contacts also work, at least with your helmet on. Bascinets with exterior-fitted visors or grills generally have enough space ahead of your brow to fit spectacles in. I have a bascinet from James River (armourer Eric) I w...
