What is the going price on the jousting shields?

The little ones? They are a good size for a ground fighting show...not too big to cover up the actor.

How is Wicket? FAT. Actually, we just offered her to Kiwi because we heard about Socks. We might offer her up for sale in the future because I'm the only one who will ride her and I have the other horse for my job. I might send her off to my cousins farm for training and such as well, then with pro...

Yep, a cross with a Percheron. He's perfect....not tall (only 16.3HH), but powerful. Almost the perfect Norman warhorse. Nothing is more annoying than when my "history challenged" co-workers further the myth that all jousting horses were 18HH giants that knights had to be winched on to.......

My question is what do other fighters do for off-hand sword practice? Everything. Anything you plan on doing with your left hand do with your right. I can't tell you the number of times I've had fighters stop after several bouts and look at me and say- Hey, you're fighting off handed. You MUST be a...

Yep! I did the MRF from 1994-1998 as a jouster and marshal.

The company that did them this year was EMO Mojo. I hear they aren't all that great, and do not do full contact. I haven't seen it, but I know people who are no impressed.

I hope to be able to do the MRF again next year.

Adam Berry (White Mountain Armory) makes the best version of that helm. It would be worth saving the $ and getting one of his. You get what you pay for. I learned that the hard way. In the long run, getting the helm you want for more $ is better than going through a bunch of them in the meantime. YM...

Yep. Your views here and in the Thirty thread.

Not at all. The COTT and other "specialty" tournaments with victory conditions that are not standard SCA combat do not count for this discussion. At least I didn't think it was.

Seems to me if I pay my dues just like you do and I want to put on armor its not really anyones place to tell me I can't. If I am following the same rules you follow and not intentionally hurting myself or others why shouldn't I be allowed to participate.

In a sense, you're pushing to remove the kind of fighting you want from the normal SCA context. I see that as just plain being a mistake. I think it's counter-productive for what I believe you want to accomplish and I'm sure it's counter-productive to the SCA list field as a whole. Could you elabor...

So I guess part of what I'm *not* getting here, is that you guys aren't finding this in "regular" SCA fighting.

But playing hard is not fighting in earnest. Ah ha! This is our misunderstanding. I think you can fight in earnest WITHOUT maiming your opponent. You can fight hard, as they did, without wanting to kill the man. They did this many times, and although risk of injury is there, killing your opponent w...

I like my friends, and our mutual ability to continue liking one another. Combat in earnest would not permit that. This is perhaps true for you. However, I find it not. This is why armor doesn't mean as much as the mindset to fight in such deeds as the COTT, As Real Men Fought, and other deeds that...

It is my firm belief that the men then did not fight like we do in the SCA. They did not simply "hit a man" wherever they were able with the weapon. The took deliberate actions with expected results.

I wish I could fight more like this. I do not prefer lottery fighting any more.

Yes. I have one Vitus sent up to test. It is the STRONGEST one I've ever had. It has recently been used in real lance passes (not scored, not tipped, but 12' pine rod with a copper cap on it) and it barely gouged!

They are the best ones EVER.

They are little squares of cloth with stuff on them with a belt loop at the top. Often denoting group or such.

I've seen a lot of them in the pics.
