Ah, my leg harness now is one of Valerius' earlier works (early 90's I think). It's a tank, and looks bad as hell to boot! His stuff is sweet.

There is more than an armor requirement.

You MUST have the right mindset to fight this deed.

Hey Ice, can you contact me about the hauberk you sent me before war? I used it for the first time yesterday at practice and it might be the wrong size. I don't think it's an XXL as it was pretty tight and I'm not near a 66" chest.
Thanks!

What do you call real combat experience? I don't train to fight SCA. I train to kill people in medieval warfare. In the SCA, I have to turn off things that would kill most "sport" fighters. There is a huge difference between sparring and killing. What I saw in the video was sparring. Call...

A lot of people here must have no real combat experience outside the SCA.

From reading all these, that is what I come up with.

After watching the videos I have a question. How much experience do the people doing the test have? I notice that in many parts there is a timidity to the passes, and that the person with the longsword exploits almost no opportunity to close, much less grapple or switch technique. I would like to ad...

I weight and balance my rattan swords just like the real swords. I even taper the grip in the same way, so there is not difference to me in handing. The real swords seem to fly through the air faster since they cut the air better. In that sense our SCA techniques work better with a real sword. Awes...

How close you were to me. That's the dilema. In the SCA wrap whots are used to exploit the rule that one can not grapple, grab, or attempt to disarm. The problem with an SCA wrap shot in it's practical use in the SCA is that if I am close enough to you to throw the wide arc to the back of the head ...

I use PRECISELY the same shot I've seen demonstrated to me by ducal-level SCA guys to describe wrap shots, in order to throw disembowling cuts to the front of my opponent, sufficiently precisely that I've had opponents in Hungary come back to me to find out how it is I kept cutting them in the exac...

IMHO if over 60 nobles in appropriate kit appear at a CotT we should thank God for the blessing and the Captains for their hard work. Then we have them all participate once we even the numbers. DING! Then, when we have enough...we can have our OWN battles at Pennsic.....muahahahahahahahaaaaaaaaaa

I think folks have pretty well trashed the claims that a wrap shot won't cut. Clearly it will. And I can throw the sword at a tatami mat and cut it. I did not say they won't cut. I can make ANY blow with a sword cut. I'm saying that the "wrap shot" is not a widely used or useful technique...

geometry IS an issue. In my experience in armored steel full contact fighting with grappling, the wrap shot is just too dangerous a technique to apply in a single combat scenario. From that, and 14 years of serious SCA fighting have lead me to believe that the reason that wrap shots work so well in...

I have to admit a certain smug glee seeing the "wrap shots don't work with real swords, man" get righteously refuted. Am I bad for that? Wrap shots work because the rules of the SCA allow them to function and thrive. I have to say, if the SCA allowed grappling and full body target wrap sh...

And, someone has to wear the most armor....
