Re: The cluture of no arm hunting
Ewan, I have a query on your statement. I do what you described above to people a LOT. I fight a close game, and I DO NOT throw wraps. I hate them. But, people begin throwing them the second I get to A range or closer. I counter this by hitting the arm as they throw the wide wrap shot to go around m...

Roman makes some awesome stuff. I got a helm he had up here for sale and it was great. Shipped fast and was very pleased. If the one helm fit me I'd have got it already. Dang big head. That first helm is sweet.

Re: BLOCKING! Its GOT to go....
There is a historical context to "A Knight's Tale" outside of being released in 2001? Now I am worried about my understanding of 14th c. I guess I was able to take off my "I'm a medieval expert" glasses when I watched that movie. Or, perhaps I was biased since we almost did some...

I have two of them. They are the best SCA chairs I've ever had. Easy take down and set up, transport easy, look great. Way better than the old crap I used to have in camp.

Comparing SCA fighting to actual period tourney is like jousting on a camel.
Sad too, cause the tournements in that movie are actually based in actual historical context.

Re: Armed to the teeth (SCA).
I wear my sidearm in every fight, ever. I take anything that hits my sidearm enough that it moves. It is the only fair way. I am "armed to the teeth" in the specialty battles. Sword in scabbard, rondel, and a pollax. This is the only place where it is welcomed and not frowned upon by some....

Looking for more info on this dress

Has any of the illustrious sewing gods of the archive ever attempted or done one of these dresses? I am looking to get info on this for someone looking to make a 15th C dress like this.
Thanks!

This is where I will be at training when my sutures are removed in three weeks. The springtime calls, and the frost and snow are gone from the lists. Hooves must soon make their marks in the new grown grass.

My dream of getting a 15th C kit for tournament jousting is getting clearer, with a positive step in aquiring a slightly used curiass and having tassets added. It is about to arrive soon for test runs on the horse. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v168/Leonthas/newcuriass2.jpg The harness I am goin...

Hey Brother, I am praying for you in this rough time. Keep in mind, you are always welcome at my home to joust. We have enough gear and you and I wear about the same size. I'm not really religious, nor are a good chunk of my household. We all wear paternosters to accurately portray our time period. What time period? 1351 and 1399. As to how are they carried, we wear them on our necks, draped on the civilian knife, on the buckler, carry them in hand, and inside a man ...

I am training for a 14thC Pas d'Armes. There will be formal challenges sent. The Pas will feature a shield tree to select opponent and choice of a three joust courses with the lance then dismount and strokes with the longsword or pole weapon. The tenans will be two very mighty exponents of medieval...

Ivan, making light, or deriding SCA combat on a BBS where the vast majority of people who post about fighting are SCA fighters is like going into a bar filled with Harley owners and saying that Harley's suck.
YMMV.

I just wanted to point out that the pic of my squire and I is an optical illusion. He wanted to close just as I was throwing a slot shot and it hit him at the very base of the sword. My son needed a helm for foam jousting to continue his training, and I didn't have a lot to spend to get him one. Lucky for me, I gave Roman a shot on one of the helms he was selling here on the AA. I don't think I have ever, in the midst of an engagement with an opponent, felt pulling a dagger was wise, nor had one used on me successfully. During the time an opponent has let go of his main weapon to grab the dagger, I have always been able to do violent things to him, and feel quite the same ...
