Sure. Wanna tie the guy's legs while you're at it? They're two totally different apples. Some guys will have enough native talent that they can make even a crappy style work. But when one style is leaving holes big enough to drive a truck through, because that's how his/her teacher has trained the ...

Are SCAers trying to kill each other? No and they never will, it's a game. Violent but a game in the end Are ARMAteers going to kill each other? No they are training... but keeping a dead serious eye on the idea of keeping the practice lethal. I must have a different vision of lethal. I was under t...

SCA combat is a modern iteration of the Medieval behourd. The behourd was not earnest life or death combat. Neither is SCA combat. What the behourd was, was a contest between noble friends for the purpose of testing skill and celebrating prowess, art and culture. That is what SCA combat is. +1 Well...

There is no superior style or form, only superior practitioners. I agree. There are certainly *inferior* ones, or styles whose principles get their practitioners creamed by people whose styles aren't vulnerable to them. I respectfully disagree a bit with this. If you take a gifted combatant in one ...

Which actually, Leo, in part goes to your argument that some folks are just good at fighting. I agree. But I'd add that, just like any athletic sport, systematic training makes them *better*. Yes, just as training over years does help an "ungifted" person achieve a level of "proficie...

We could, I reckon, say the same about pitting a top-rated SCA combatant against WMA practitioners. What rules would be applied? I agree. However, there is a vast difference between SCA "stick tag" and actually going out and killing a man in armored combat. The SCA's big advantage at this...

I wager that the top-level Kendoka in the world would defeat any WMA practitioner today, I disagree. I did a small amount of study in Kendo, and found it to be quite limiting. They have very strict targets, and very strict scoring. I believe that if they followed the strict rules of Kendo they woul...

You were not in the military? I am quite in tune with the secular ideal of humanity. I am confused, because you yourself signed your posts with objects of rank and achievement. Does this not refute what you posted? I do not think garb is necessary to train in certain aspects of martial study. Howeve...

We all have our hands dirty in this. It's the same pattern over and over. The entire WMA community should be ashamed of itself. I disagree. There are many people whom have no ill will towards any school of martial study. Heck, I've bashed SCA many times and I'm in it. I am curious if you read my po...

One other thing that must be acknowledged, in my opinion, is the multitude of other new entertainment which is targeted at a similar demographic to ours. 1994 roughly coincided with the beginning of mainstream household internet use. I have a measuring tape....... There is a single constant in martial arts. There are those who excel at violent encounters, and those that can't . Schools are created to market the unattainable desire of a majority of people who were not gifted or genetically superior and thus able to effectively u...

Besides, of the 60 people out there how many have voiders?

Many, including myself, wear maille habergeons for this battle. Just for what you say.

I love the #2 rule, and love fighting like that.

Armor counts. That is sooooo much more fun than tag.

Sir Kieran (Leo Med) and Gabriella Hamilton are out. Alas, this seems to be the case. The rising cost of fuel is pricing me out of the SCA. I have been to no events since gas crossed the $4 a gallon mark Pennsic is unattainable with gas costs, and that seems to be the wave of the future unless one ...

Selling to Upgrade-14th C historical grade SS arms

My wife wants to upgrade. So, she is selling her 14th C arms. Based on the #13 and 14 harness, stainless steel, size Large. The articulation is crisp and clean, no gaps or things typical of "SCA" armors. These are historical grade arms (14th C mafia approved). Spade fan, full vambrace. No ...
