Maxim is a very helpful and accomodating guy. If you are clear about what you want, he will either make it or amend an in stock item at an amazing speed. I can commend him to you highly. BUT do be clear about what you want and ask for it! Remember it is your responsibility to spec the armour that y...

Musashi was a bad ass with a sword obviously but even if Musashi himself taught you his techniques there might still be a great lack of one of his greatest assets. I bet Musashi was lightning fast and couldn't understand why the others around him weren't as fast as he was. That man bested an expert...

I personally do not care for pflug as it is easily broken by a krumphau or an sheilhau, not to mention a zwerchhau. Also you can thrust at someone in pfulg and then turn the thrust into a cut and hit him very easily. It is not a safe posture. I don't understand your use of the word broken. I'm gues...

I was a bit unclear, initiative and attack are not the same thing. You have to maintain control and initiative in the fight. Also, Hugh you are incorrect. I have had a lot of success using the techniques in the SCA combat I do. I had much MORE success using them in such things at the COTT, but they ...

Yep. I use the same heads. In melee I have almost ZERO blow recognition with them with the Midrealm required padding. Living in three seperate kingdoms, I've noticed that if you don't have a rattan clacker, it didn't land. Padding the polearms really limits them. I'd go for full rattan to get someo...

Searched a little and found this: Then began the mariners to open the ports of the transports, and let down the bridges, and take out the horses; and the knights began to mount, and they began to marshal the divisions of the host in due order. Geoffrey de Villehardouin [b.c.1160-d.c.1213]: Memoirs ...

Wow! I'd like to get that when it comes out (as a avid reader of pre-Meiji Samurai culture). But.....I still don't buy it. There is conjecture that Musashi moved around a lot as a child, and might have even been adopted a couple times when relatives or caregivers died. Just like people say aliens he...

You got me there. I love the style. When done well it can be graceful, powerful, and effective which is the backbone of knightly combat. But Authentic... Yea... probably not. Have to agree...despite being primarily a two-sworder in single combat, myself. It's readily documentable for unarmored figh...

I agree with Leo that the Japanese didn't do it, but for different reasons. Even if Go Rin No Sho said Musashi did it, he did it after 1600. There's sure nothing about him doing it before, and nothing really concrete about his doing it after. I do seem to recall an event where he was ambushed by 4-...

Hmm so why were these rules written again? I see no reason for this convolution of the existing rules. They should be abandoned and forgotten. Also how many KEMs were at that meeting? Were all of them asked for opinions on these rules? I have my doubts about that. Methinks Omarad should say sorry f...

There are several examples of hammers and other weapons with metal fitted and spiked ends under six feet in length. However, the SCA isn't looking at historical examples it seems, so YMMV. Also, there are numerous examples of medieval tournaments being fought on foot. There are zero proven examples ...

I wear a linen shirt under a linen 13th C jack. I want to go. It's the coming up with the funds, and finding someone to take care of an entire farm for a week that is proving hard. Heck, I want to, and have been doing it here in the US. It is one of the small reasons I have been scarce at SCA stuff since Pennsic is because there is a really local...
