I do not like this idea. Retained wounds tourney's are interesting in concept, but do not work IMO in SCA combat.

I stand by my statement. If someone takes my leg, or arm, or anything that causes me to lose the ability to use that asset in an SCA fight, I expect them to pay me honour by besting me with thier full arsenal till the very end of the fight. To do any less is telling me that I am now unworthy of thie...

One shining example was Roy Cox's group, which was pretty much the opposite of the other groups that I saw. I now owe you a beer (or twenty). Will you be at Pennsic this year? Yes, but I don't drink beer. Roy's company, and his outlook were totally different than Kelly Bailey and the NRGA. Way back...

I would love these battles. The ONE AND ONLY thing LARP had that was cooler than SCA (in my opinion over 20 years in LARP and 14 in the SCA) is that the LARP was 24/7 and everyone on the battlefield was "in play". I miss that part most of all when now doing SCA only. Most SCA battles are j...

I love how he said that anyone who in essence developed a defensive technique would be "pilloried" out of the sport. So I suppose he never blocked when he was a MMA fighter? Val, the premise is to take the strike full on, without fear, and counting on your skill upon the horse to stay ast...

The closer you get to WAR the farther you are from FUN. I don't think this way at all. However, I totally agree with the "I hate generi-battles" idea. I love things like Nissan's Merc's vs. Kings Men, and our regional war practive event here in the Middle, Siege of Talonval. They have inn...

Our first Worldjoust Tournaments 'expansion event' will take place in Quebec at the beginning of September, and we're in discussion for a WorldJoust Tournaments IJL Open event for the spring in the US. I would like to see standard ammo. No archers that are "unhittable". No "light archers". If you step on the field, you can be hit. No archers that dance. I don't dance. I don't cry when someone thinks my shot was not good. You should not, and it is poor form. No gleaning during b...

This thread has a great historical study portion. It shows that even in the great "Victorian" chivalric ideal practiced today by a vast number of participants of the SCA, that just like our historical ancestors of the past, there are knights who are dicks, and those who are not.

Buy it. It's well worth the expense if you plan on using a poleaxe for something other that a levered stick.

It was worth the wait to get it, and I hope they continue to make them on other subjects.
