I don't wear armor to seek compliment. I wear it because they did. They did it to survive. If I wanted to be a stick god, I'd dump it. But, I'm pretty OK with where I'm at in the full gear of the time periods I am enduring. So you are actually saying that your armor is keeping you from being a bett...

Who gets all dressed up in armour to get shot by an arrow? Leo apparently. He also want's people to drop rocks on his head and then of course tell him how pretty his armor is. Not ashamed of it at all. I LIKE the dogs of war. I like being as close to the medieval battlefield as the timid SCA rules ...

It is what it is. It has great fun and a large following. It has great advantages, including a world wide rules set.

There are things I don't like about it. But, they do not stop me from loving SCA combat.

"No. It's not my place to rob someone else of their fun like that." That's the job of the CA, actually. Their sole and ONLY goal is to deny fighters the opportunity to fight, while seeking as little risk and as much gratification as possible. I cannot find it in my heart to respect, or co...

I never said CA was chivalrous. I said I liked it. Then again, a field of 2,000 Syndromes isn't all that impressive either. Unless you think CA belongs in any mass engagement or that every big combat is a battle and is never a deed of arms I'm probably not talking about you. If it's a grande melee,...

Are they not taking new orders at this time?

Don't you have some stalls to clean? Six actually. By grace of God I am fortunate to persue the art of chivalry as done by the knights of old as all knights should. Skill of arms, and skill of horse. Surely you know, surely you practice and maintain the same skills of our knightly ancestors? I am b...

She and I went through a LONG process of design and choosing the final banner. SHE DESIGNED EACH ONE. I shot many of them down and she came up with one that just SANG. I have gotten dozens of comments on the flag, and I've used it twice. I actually want another just like it too, so we can put one on...

What's better than the truth? Lies? Who decides what truth and lies are? The fighter who is the epitome of SCA Chivalric Virtue at events, Galahad incarnate, but cheats on his taxes, stabs his co-workers in the back, and neglects his family Monday - Friday.... Who places a greater value on his SCA-...

You mean recreating the medieval ages as they should have been? Yeah, I've read the quote in the several sources it was in. The Knowne World handbook was one of the first thing I got in 1986 when I was a LARP geek, and again when I joined the SCA in 1993 to have a historical outlet and get away fro...

So, the next time I'm at an event, I'll get me some 2,000 prisoners and gut them all. As the person who did this was a knight, he must have acted in a "knightly fashion". The one great disservice the SCA does to actual historical "history" is it's adherence to the Victorianesque ...

Once shot, most fighters brains go through a process like a computer. One, recognition of the hit if they feel it. Two, discerning where and how hard the hit was. Then, there seem to be two seperate paths the rest of the program goes. On one path, the brain goes to step three. Three, looking to see ...

It's not a crime to be pro-archery. At an event here we drove 2 hours to go to, before the last battle they said they were going to allow "experimental" arrows for our kingdom. The same ones we get shot with at Pennsic every year. There was a big hold where a CA argument broke out. There w...

The thing that brings honour to our combat is the fact that we trust our opponents on the lists.

If the "honour system" ever went away in the SCA there would be no honour in it.

Moderation. Find things to do as a family. That is the most important. Be it SCA or something, anything, it is more important to be together as a family than anything. Money is awesome. It is not so awesome if it causes you to be alone or unhappy. Talk to you wife and kids. Would they rather "h...
