Renown is something that takes a long time to build, through sweat, blade, heart and intent for reputation.

It takes only a few seconds of poor action or words to lose what takes years to build.

Just a sayin.

I guess I've just never gotten beaten in such a fashion under the rules set of the SCA where it made me look at people differently. I also have never really felt threatened with actual harm in an SCA fight, ever. Sure, I've suffered some injury, like broken fingers and such, but it's just part of t...

I too like to fight much harder than the rules allow for the SCA. However, when in Rome? Sometimes I get told I hit hard. Sometimes I get told I hit light. As I am really winning or losing nothing on the scale of a true life or death contest of arms I play aong with the herd. I've found that to be t...

Lord Captain, we will be fielding anywhere from 5-8 people this Pennsic. All the same fellows as last year, and perhaps three more.

We've been getting ready. Sir Cellach and I and a few others spent some time at Baron Wars here getting some COTT time in.

We have bells on.

My newest "lame shot of the game"!

So, is this a new thing, or have I just not seen this before? Last weekend, at the local melee event, I saw a spear technique I've not seen before. It's lame. Lame like being forced to watch a silent movie of Milli Vanilli dancing having to listen to a repeating midi played through bathwater of Fran...

IMO we need to get rid of the foam in the weapons and just go with some thick leather on the tips. But from those who argue the thrust wasn't effective, I suddenly get "Are you trying to kill me for real???" whenever I suggest that we just go straight rattan and leather. Just enough leath...

For game reasons that should be obvious but for some reason aren't, thrusting tips should be mandatory whether you use them or not. IF we are all using swords, we should either all have thrusting tips or disallow them entirely. If leaving off a thrusting tip affects the performance f the sword, the...

The only time I don't have a thrusting tip on a weapon that historically had one is when it breaks off from smashing people to pulp.

I find it funny the disdain in the SCA for thrusting when it was the primary technique for serious maiming but will throw wrap shots till the cows come home.....

I have been involved in combat since the age of 8.

At 39, I now know why people who lived this life had a shortened life span.

However, I was not only involved in the SCA, and many of my injuries/issues currently are from jousting, and other harder forms of combat.

Throughout history, men of true worth wore the best arms and armor that were available to them in thier time.
Serfs and villiens wore what they could scrounge up or the clothes on thier backs.

That is all.
